Dr. Pupkova is absolutely incredible! My first impression of her was very positive and has only gotten stronger over the last several months. She is extremely intelligent, focused and is a no-nonsense kind of woman. She is also warm, caring and truly, a special person. From her hugs, to speaking with my parents (prior to surgery both over the phone and in person) to returning my emails prior to surgery, to her calming nature minutes before I went into the O.R., to her constant care while I was at Barix, PA for my surgery, she is wonderful all around. My surgery did not go as smoothly as I hoped -- it wound up taking 3 hours instead of the anticipated hour/hour & a half, I experienced a lot of pain directly afterwards and I ran a fever of 101.8 -- and my impression of Dr. Pupkova is still nothing but the best. She would come and check up on me all throughout the day and evening. If she came during a time when I was walking, she would walk the laps with me. She consistently kept my parents and me informed and cautiously chose to keep me at Barix for an extra day. One evening when I was in incredible pain, Dr. Pupkova was with me until 11:00 pm and was back up at my room to check on me by 5:00 am the next morning! I don't know any other surgeons/doctors who would have done that and I wish all were as dedicated as Dr. Pupkova. As I said earlier, she is truly special! She has given me her cell phone number after surgery and I have spoken with her a few times since surgery to ask questions. She has answered her phone each time and has been able to talk to me and answer my questions for me. I have never felt rushed. Even though I know Dr. Pupkova has many, many other patients, when I am with her and talking to her, I often feel like I am her only patient and it feels amazing! I drove (from NY) to my 2-week follow up appointment with Dr. Pupkova and again, she was wonderful, answered any of my questions, and said I am doing great. I obviously have no way of predicting the long-term effects of my surgery right now, but I trust Dr. Pupkova's surgical competence completely and I would do it all again, with Dr. Pupkova.
My first impression of Dr. P is that she is very caring and up front. She gave me the information and told me what I should be doing. Her office staff is great. I had no trouble getting approved through insurance and currently working on my short term disability. I like that Dr. P doesn't pull any punches. She tells it like it is. Dr. Pupkova has an extensive surgery record and in her words \"has crafted her technique.\" \"Stick to the program.\" You will be very successful. The Batrix Clinics in Langhorne is a very constructed before & after care facility. Dr. P will go over both types with you but will push for the RNY over the lapband. The lap band was not for me. It is to much maintenance. I would rate Dr.P at this time very satisfactory. I work in a hospital in Philadelphia, and can honestly say surgical competence comes first but their bedside better be the same. I would go for both.
Dr. Pupkova was wonderful! It's hard to believe she's a surgeon from her kind and sweet demeanor. She called me at home after the surgery to see how I was doing and she actually gives out her cell phone number to all her patients with instructions to call 24/7 !!! I don't know too many doctors that do that!rnrn
Dr. Pupkova gave me my life back. There are not enough wonderful things to say about this woman. rnrnFrom the first day I met her she was very direct in answering my three pages of questions - she talked with me and my husband for more than an hour on our first visit! She made me feel so safe and secure in my decision. My husband and I were both terrified about statistics we had heard about bariatric surgery. We wanted to know that it was safe option. No surgery is without risks, but the mortality risks that I had associated with bariatric surgery have been drastically reduced. Dr. Pupkova has done more than 1,200 surgeries without incident. If you follow her plan she will help you use this tool to change your life. rnrnIn addition to being very experienced and highly sucessful in bariatric surgery, Dr. Pupkova is a very caring woman who hugs you after your visits and surgery. She really cares about her patients and it shows in her actions.rnrnFollowing my surgery, Dr. Pupkova was checking up on me daily while in the hospital and called me at home following surgery. Her attention to detail is unmatched in any health care professional I have ever worked with. rnrnIf you are considering surgery with Dr. Pupkova, please feel free to contact me.rnrn
5-11-07 ::: MY FIRST IMPRESSION WAS THAT SHE RUSSIAN... SINCE I AM RUSSIAN THAT WAS A GOOD THING FOR ME... SHE WAS REALLY NICE... KIND OF IN A RUSH.. BUT I STILL LIKED HER... THE OFFICE STAFF WAS REALLY NICE, SHE ISNT REALLY IN AN OFFICE... SHE IS IN A HOSPITAL WITH A FEW OTHER DOCTORS AND THEY SHARE OFFICES... THE DOCTOR WAS INTO THE AFTER CARE SHE MADE HER ROUNDS 2 X THE NEXT MORNING AND SHE WAS AVAILABLE BY PHONE ALL NIGHT... THE NURSES ON THE NIGHT SHIFT WERE HAVING A PROBLEM WITH MY BLOOD PRESSUREE SO THATS WHY I FEEL AS THOUGH SHE CARES ABOUT A PATIENTS AFTERCARE... SHE WENT OVER THE RISKS DURING THE CONSULT AND AGAIN RIGHT BEFORE SURGERY... I WOULD RATE DR PUPKOVA A 10... I AM VERY SATISFIED WITH THE SURGERY AND RECOVERY...rnrnrn:::UPDATE:::7.26.07:::UPDATE::: Dr. P is still the best in my eyes... now that I am almost 3 months post-op she still calls me to see how i am doing... the care that she gives is like no other... also one thing i liked best about how my procedure was done was that she checks for leaks before she finishes the surgery which in the end make for a better recovery instead of having to go downstairs the following morning to get an xray and swallow that nasty contrast... eeew... i did have to do it once though but almost 1.5 months post of for other reasons... I am so thankful that Dr. P did my surgery, all of my my incisions are healing so well... one itches all the time but i think thats from my clothes... again i can not thank DR. P enough for performing the surgery... rnrnAlso, i did want to also include that Dr. P (and barix) are very picky about the patients they perform wls on... if you are at an extreme risk please do not be upset with anyone at the facility they mainly take patients they believe up front will be low risk (so to speak) yes surgery is always risky but just to give you an example... my father 5'10'' now 400 pounds, has a trache, and decubitis ulcer scars also went to see Dr. P and she turned him down because she felt as though he may need a facility that would be able to care for him in case of an emergency... which i completely understand from her point... but as my father left the facility he was not pleased with that answer he thought she should have still been able to do the surgery... in the end my father is now getting surgery sept 10 at jeans... personally i dont like his dr but thats my opinion... no one lives up to my standards for a bs after dealing with dr p... with that said... if you are reading this and you were turned down by the dr, well then she had a very good reason please dont be upset with her... she only wants whats best for everyone...rnrnOh yeah there are meetings at barix too that i wish i could get to but i always forget the day of the meeting that there is one that night... maybe the next one i will go to...
I was impressed by what I read about her. She took her time during the small group consultation to go into a lot of detail about the types of WLS available. She stressed that she only schedules laproscopic surgeries because of the easier recovery for the patient. She then met with each of us privately. She asked questions about health conditions and went over the completed paperwork I brough in. She was warm and has done almost 1000 bariatric surgeries. She will recheck for leaks immediately after the procedure and not every surgeon does this. Most just get an X-ray the next day which isn't as accurate as what Dr. Pupkova does. She gives her patients her cell phone number and tells them to call with any concern. Both surgical competence and bedside manner are great. I have confidence that I am in good hands with Dr. P. She has not lost one patient. I am waiting to schedule my surgery.
When I met Dr. Pupkova at the consult I thought that she was very detailed in discussing the surgery. She took time to answer everyone's questions and compared both lap band and RNY at length. She did not try to talk you out of one or into another she simply stated risks and benefits of each, and helped to guide the individual into what ever direction they were hoping to go. I am a nurse and deal with many surgeons and I must say that she is very personable, not many surgeons are. If her surgical skills compare to her bedside manner and personality she is a gem.
