Dr. Rumsey was very nice during my initial examination. Afterward he invited my mom in for the question and answer session. He answered all of our questions in full, as well as the risks. He wrote down each risk and what percentage it was and what we'd do to minimize it. My mom and I both thought he was very kind and had a good bedside manner.
He was very positive and assuring at every visit in the hospital, and he was very encouraging. I enjoyed his visits and the updates as to my progress.
The only complaint I have is that I didn't get to see a nutritionist before leaving the hospital, and when i asked him if I was going to he said they'd just go over the same stuff I had in my packet. However, once I got hme and was reading it I still had a lot of questions;questions I wrote down and am taking to HIM at my fallow up appt. in 2 days. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence are great, on a 1-10 scale I'd give him a 9, because no ones perfect :)
done to earth man who really seems to care about his patient and not only his patient but there families to..when i was in the hospital he came in several times to check how i was feeling and to see if he could do anything to ease my pain. the office staff at pacific bactric and at the hospital were the nicest i have ever come to know ..doctor rumsey comes to were family is waiting and talks to you personally instead of recieving
phone call...
My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was that he had "big hands" and I wondered if he need to make the incision larger to accommodate them!
He was very attentive and answered all questions. He did not seem to be in a hurry. I was confident that he was competent.
Office staff are very busy ...
Aftercare is emphasized and is critical to long=term success.
Not sure if there is a structured aftercare program ... there is a "peer" run support group but nutrional info seems inadequate particularly for newbys.
Dr. Rumsey was very thorough about answering questions regarding the risks of surgery. There was never any pressure to make a decision one way or the other ... always felt like it was mine to make right up to being wheeled into the operating room.
I'm glad I had Dr. Rumsey as a surgeon. He did an excellent job ... no complications, scaring is minimal, and he is available.
Surgical competence was best but bedside manner was good too.
I've only met him once and he seemed tired. I asked him about possibly having a laporoscopic procedure done and he sort of dismissed the question and said he thought it wasn't the best way to have it done. I wish he would have treated it as a possible alternative for me and tell me the pros and cons. I have been told prior that I met the criteria for the laporascopic procedure.
He did seem concerned with my overall health and sat down in a chair right next to me to answer any questions I had.
His nurse was very nice and helpful. There is a structured aftercare program. He did not address the risks of surgery personally but the risks are discussed in the literature that I was given.
I was so nervous and Dr. Rumsey immediately put me at ease. We connected due to the fact that I am a teacher and his daughter was going into teaching.
He totally won my heart at the 3 month post op visit. After describing that I had eaten some deep fried shrimp and become completely ill ( expecting a stern lecture) he smiled and said that the surgery was doing its job and to be careful of high fatty foods.
His office staff was both kind and profesional. Some have had the surgery. On the pre op meeting several ladies from the San Diego area visited us and " walked" us through the surgery.
Pacific Bariatric not only has you attend a lecture but they also have you read an info packet and take a test. Dr. Rumsey sends a nutritionist in to review this with you while you are in the hospital. Support group attendance is encouraged and newsletters are sent out. The dr. and the psychatrist that you visit review the surgery risks and bebefits. The psychiatrist even asked me my plan of attack for menus, emphasizing that the surgery is a tool .
On a scale of 1-10 I rate him a 10. He is kind, encouaging but most of all he is real and doesn't assume the mask of a hurried physician.. His bedside manner was reassuring and his surgical technique outstanding.
I meet Dr. Rumsey on Monday the 16th he was friendly, caring explained the pros and cons othe surgery. While waiting for my appt. alot of his patients where in the waiting room they all said he is the best took go care of them however 2 ladies there had ther surgery 3 wks ago and both and infections in their incesion but both where losing weight one lady said she lost 46 lbs. in three wks. the other said she lost 26 and even though they were in pain they said they would do it again. I hope to be sucessful. I had to wait for more than 45 minutes to be seen, his statff was alright.
Dr. Rumsey is absolutely amazing! He made me incredibly comfortable at my first consultation with him. He was very patient and gentle. He reminds me of an all american 'Dad'! The staff at Pacific Bariatric was equally as amazing. Ever so patient with my repeated phone calls! Dr. Rumsey's nurse is also outstanding. She has a terrific sense of humor! Dr. Rumsey has a great aftercare program, I was sent home with all sorts of nutritional guides and information. I would definately return to Dr. Rumsey, and I 100% recommend him!! His bedside manner is great, his surgical competence is the BEST and I have to say - my incision looks fabulous! He took a lot of care and attention stitching me up, so there will hardly be any scarring. I can't think of a single negative thing to say about Dr. Rumsey or his staff!
