Edward Mun Bariatric Surgeon M.D.,F.A.C.S.
DR MUN IS AN EXCELLENT SURGEON HE ALWAYS AVAILABLE TO ANSWER ANY QUESTION. HIS OFFICE STAFF IS TOP NOTCH THEY HANDLE ALL THE INSURANCE PAPERWORK ALL I HAD TO DO IS WAIT FOR THE APPOVAL AND I WAS ON MY WAY. ALL I CAN SAY IS THE BETH ISRAEL DEACONESS PROGRAM TAKES CARE OF THE PATIENT FROM BEGINNING TO END AND BEYOND. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY COMPLACATIONS SO IT WAS REALLY EASY FOR ME. I WOULD DO THIS AGAIN IN A HEARTBEAT.
My first impression of doctor mun was that he is very knowledgeable about what he does .
He answered all my questions and he was very nice and it seems like he really cares about his patients . i had no more questions for him because i asked
him a lot of questions when i went to hte support group meetings. His office staff is the bomb they are so nice and if they say they willcontact you then they do .
I got my date for surgery three days after i meet with him and i was so excited i can't wait to let him change my life i have the utmost faith that god will guide his hands and everything will be a ok !
I saw my surgeon for the first time the other day. He has a very dry personality, definatly not the joking kind of guy. I was a little upset because he told me he thought I was a gamble becauseI didn't lose weight prior to my appt. I will proceed though because I hear he has a good reputation for care and that is more important to me than personality. I do have to say though that all of the people in the clinic are very friendly and helpful. Have not have one bad experience with anyone there. Definate emphasis on aftercare which is great. Told me all risks involved. I will return here after surgery to update with care I received from doctor during hospitalization.
Dr. Mun seems to be a very nice doctor. I have heard alot of good things about him. He was very professional in our first meeting and explained the whole process to me. The staff was also very helpful in answering all of my questions. Dr. Mun explained to me that the aftercare is very important.
Overall the process so far has been fine.
My first impression of Dr. Mun was, quite frankly not the best. During our meeting he got really angry at me because I put a lifesaver in my mouth! By the time he was through w/me I'd wished I'd have taken out a Snickers bar and at least enjoyed it! I had a difficult time w/him as well while I was in the hospital, and dreaded going back for my first post-op visit. However, my opinion of him has changed since I had the 2nd opportunity to sit down w/him. Initially, he may come off as being very "business-like", however I believe he's a truly compassionate man. And I know he's an excellent surgeon. The office staff at the Beth Israel Deaconess is unbeatable. From the receptionist to the nurses, to the doctor, nutritionist. The aftercare and incredible support is phenominal, as his Dr. Mun's secretary, Pat. Never once did anybody make me feel uncomfortable when I've needed to call. If I can't talk to the person I want to immediately they get back to me very quickly, and never rush me. Aftercare is a very important part of the program and is structured to fit the patient's needs as well. I would have to say that surgicial competence is better than bedside manner. At least in my case. I know others' feel differently, but I can only share my own personal experience. The care I received at the hospital left a lot to be desired, unfortunately. But, that was only 5 days, and the aftercare program is the best!
I have to say the staff and the doc was great even in the hospital and after words they were all great then i moved out of state and the doc i had i didnt like him at all his name was
Dr John k Wright Jr i was in the room waiting on him and he was out in the hall saying all kinds of things he should of waited to say or talked so i could not of heard him at all he didnt know me and i didnt know him but i seen him one time and will not be back to see him at all.
I have met with Dr. Mun once so far. Dr. Mun is associated with the gastric bypass program at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. Before seeing him, I met with other members of the treatment team, an RN, the psychologist, the medical director and the dietitian. So I was fairly far along in the process by the time I met with Dr. Mun, and had already had a lot of my questions answered.
When we met, Dr. Mun struck me as competent, knolwedgeable and approachable. I still had many questions, and he answered them all thoroughly and patiently. I came away feeling very comfortable knowing that he would be performing this procedure.
Both the staff at the BIDMC gastric bypass program and Dr. Mun's staff have been great to deal with.
Quick UPDATE--7/26/01--Surgery was on 7/11. All went well. I am feeling well at this point--better than I would have expected!--only "problem" is that I still tire fairly easily, but that's getting better. Dr. Mun was great. I go for my 3-week follow-up on 7/31 and will get these external staples out. So far, I'm pretty pleased with how everything went, and very pleased with my choice of surgeons.
--8/3/01--Spent most of this week back in the hospital! Had a pulmonary embolism--a blood clot that went to my lungs. Went to the ER on Monday night, was admitted and then was discharged on Thurs. This is a known complication, but one I figured wouldn't apply to me (because, of course, complications only happen to other people). They gave me IV Heparin and I am now on Coumadin (another blood-thinner) for 6 months. No damage was done--I was fortunate in that regard. I was managed by the medical service, but Dr. Mun came by to see me and check in on me each day, which I really appreciated.
--8/8/01--Saw the dietitian today--my 4-week "anniversary." (Oh--I did have my staples out on 7/31, as planned--but they were removed while I was in the hospital, instead of in the office!) I am now on soft foods. Have been having some problems with nausea--no vomiting, but it has made it difficult to get in enough water and protein drinks. They gave me a prescription for Compazine.
First impression was a someone that is very caring and has a lot of compassion for his patients. He does't really joke around, but he doesn't come across like a snob. I was very comfortable with him. He took the time to answer all of my questions and didn't rush me even though he had another patient that he needed to get to. So far, I'm very happy with my choice. Dr. Mun's secretary, Pat is WONDERFUL. I even told Dr. Mun that. She is very helpful and returns phone calls in a reasonable amount of time. She also explained the entire administrative process to me from start to finish and made me feel like I could call her at any time with questions or just to check up on the status of my case. The rest of the medical staff (Nurse Hannah, Dr. Hatchigian, Dr. Greenberg and Linda Veglia) have all be very helpful as well. I have not met anyone in the office that I didn't like.
