my first impression was yeah right, I might not get this to work for me. but after time, he has been very helpful and always looking out for me. His office staff is very nice and very willing to help you out with everything. I did not like anything about him or his staff. Dr. Aceves emphasizes a lot of aftercare to make sure you are doing okay and also sends you e-mails. I would rate him a 10 as he is very well competent in what he does. His surgical competence and bedside manners are amazing. This is just my personal view of his staff and his personal experience with his staff.

Hi my name is Kimberly I am from Arizona in the year 2008 I had decided to do something about my weight and most importantly my health. I decided to research Gastric Bypass surgery that is when I came across Dr. Aceves sight on the internet. I did a great deal of research on the Bypass surgery and on what would soon become the best experience I have ever had with surgery. I have had a lot of surgery’s in my life this one by far exceeds all other experiences as far as the Dr. and the crew that took care of me during my stay at the Hospital where I had the procedure done. I experienced the best care ever not to mention the best bedside manner, and the cleanliness of the hospital. The whole team definitely went out of their way to make my stay as comfortable as possible. I highly recommend Dr. Aceves and his team. I have gone from 210 pounds to 140 pounds to date. I have also gone from a size 18-20 to a size 6 to date. I always tell anyone that asks me about my choice that to this day I do not regret having this surgery done. I would like to thank Dr. Aceves and his wonderful team for making this experience as pleasant as possible. Kimberly S.rn

I was very pleased with my experience in Mexicali. I would recommend him to anyone.

Excellent surgeon, very thorough pre-screening.rnPresented as professional and approachable, excellent bedside mannor. All staff were very helpful and if they couldn't understand English, they went and found someone who did.rnThere was nothing I liked least at all.rnAll future patients should not hide any of their medical history. The surgeon has handout in English that were detailed, you can always call and or e-mail the staff. All risks were explained in detail to the patients by him and the anthesiologist both.rnI would recommend him to my mother or daughter. Both surgical competence and bedside mannor were excellent.rnrn

I had a very good experience with Dr Aceves and his staff. They responded quickly to my questions by phone before the surgery. During my hospital stay he and other doctors and his staff constantly checked on me to see how I was doing and if I needed anything. He took quite a bit of time describing the surgery, possible risks and aftereffects, and how I should be eating after the surgery. My surgery went well with no problems, and my recovery went as expected. There was some pain after surgery, but not intolerable, and they kept it at a minimum with medicines. Overall I rate Dr Aceves a top notch doctor. I am very happy with the results I have had so far, losing 52 lbs in 4.5 months.

I had VSG on 03/14/09 with Dr. Aceves and I found everything that had been written about him and Dr. Compos to be true. He was very kind and compassionate, very attentive and very understanding. He repaired a hiatal hernia while I was under (I didn't even know I had) and of course, there was no extra charge for that. The hospital was very clean and very modern. No complaints. I did find some of the staff to not be overly responsive when asked for things (not pain meds as I really didn't have any pain). I or my husband had to \"remind\" them of our requests (whether a washcloth or emptying/measuring the urine pan in the commode). Nothing that doesn't happen in the States also, just didn't find that it was always 5 star service is all I am saying. Overall, it was a very positive experience and one I wouldn't hesitate to recommend to a family member. Take snacks if anyone goes with you as the hospital cafeteria is an \"order off the menu\" kind a place (no buffets or hot tables). No snacks to purchase anywhere close.

My first impression of Dr. Aceves was compassion. I truly felt that he has a deep passion for what he does and the lives that are placed in his hands. Over time this feeling was only amplified. His medical staff was unrelenting in their efforts to provide awe-inspiring medical care. Having worked in the medical field as a CNA for some time I'm not easy to please when I comes to medical care but I can confidently say that the expectations and quality service I received during my hospital stay were leaps and bounds above my expectations. I would absolutely recommend Dr. Aceves to any one who is interested in taking the leap and is set on having the surgery. I had been to 4 seminars for 7 different Doctors in the U.S. over the course of 4 years and never once felt completely confidence to put my life in doctor’s hands until I began speaking with Dr. Aceves and his staff. Dr. Aceves also makes it a priority to check on you every day while you’re in the hospital, before and after surgery, which was exceptional. The after care program has been fool proof and easy to follow. Having the ability to speak with medical staff at any time of the day with any question was a huge relief. I can't say enough about how my well-being was there only concern during the entire process before and after my surgery. Before I had the surgery I had never been outside of the U.S., had a terrible fear of flying and had never spent that much money on anything but the experience was so amazing that even if the surgery were free in my home town I would tell them to buy a ticket to Mexico and learn something.

In Dec of 2007 I interviewed with Dr A for gastric sleeve surgery for weight loss----he was very reluctant to operate because of my age....75 at the time, he had to be convinced that I was a good candidate.....my surgery was in Jan 2008, had a lovely stay in a very clean hospital in Mexicalli and stayed about 5 days, went home and with instructions, followed the diet and excercise recommended and now having lost 117 lbs my friends, relatives, and 3 sons are so proud of me and my US Doc has taken me off most meds.....I no longer require O2 for sleep apnea...no more high blood pressure, no edema, no borderline diabetes, in general am feeling so good, I can walk and not get tired, workout in the pool and my life is so wonderful I cannot say enough for the wonderful Docs and hospital for my successful surgery.....thanks so much.rnDianne

I'm sure that my situation is the same as many others accessing this site. You realize that the time has come to make some major changes in your life concerning your long term weight issues. You've been to the \"seminars\" presented by your local surgeons or hospitals and have made the big decision to have weight loss surgery. Problem is your insurance (if you are lucky enough to have it)can't or won't pay and the cost is prohibitive. You look elsewhere for a cost effective solution and realize that having the surgery done in Mexico is the most practical option. Now you have sift through the numerous advertisements, reviews, gushing testimonials etc. to choose the surgical program (not just the surgeon, but the team he has assembled) for your needs. I initally narrowed it down to Dr. Aceves based on credentials and experience with the surgical option that I was leaning toward (sleeve gastrecomy). My interaction with my patient coordinator (Renee) is what finalized the big decisionto go with Dr. Aceves.rn What most people don't realize is that by the time they actually meet their surgeon of choice in person, they are deeply committed to the whole program. They have researched and made a decision, hopefully had all their questions answered, paid a deposit, taken a chunk of time off of work and traveled to a foreign country. It would take a major \"issue\" to back out at that point.rnHaving laid the groundwork this is what I can comment on, based on my experience. I am almost three weeks out from my surgery. My first encounter with Dr. Aceves program was with my patient coordinator Renee. There was no pressure on her part to make a committment to Dr. Aceves. Her stated \"intent\" was to make sure that there were no unanswered questions. She called by appointment for the initial question and answer sessions. If I didn't ask a particular question on her list, she would bring it up for discussion. I had her personal cell number and she was available 24/7 to answer some pretty bizare questions. I'm sure that if I made a request to talk to Dr. Aceves personally that would have been granted. By the time I arrived in Mexicali, I felt that I was well informed and was confident in my choice of programs. Renee was the first to show what I feel is most important next to the surgical skill of Dr. Aceves and his team. Attitude. From Renee, to Ernesto who transports you to and from the airport, to the administrative staff at the hospital, to the nurses on the floor at the hospital, it was only a good vibe or attitude. I felt at ease the whole time. Each time I met with Dr. Aceves or his staff , which was several times daily, I was asked are there any questions? What can we do for you? I requested that some pictures be taken during the surgery so I could gross out my teenage children. They told me to leave my cell phone next to the bed and when I woke up the pictures were there. rnI could go into more detail, but my observations are these: rnI researched, made a choice, made the committment, took the trip and had the surgery. To save money, I came alone and felt that having someone there with me was unneccessary. I came home after a few days in the hospital with the documentation needed for future reference by my primary care physician and complete instructions for my post surgical dietary requirments. I have had no pain or the need for pain meds. My incisions have healed and have I have had no other complications. I have followed their program to facilitate the recovery of my now resized stomach and it hasn't been that bad. (losing 25 lbs. in the first 19 days has made the fluid diet tolerable) Post surgery, I have had followup via email and personal phone calls. I still call Renee with post surgical follow up questions. Everything that was mentioned on the website or promised by the staff has come to pass or is accurate. There were no hidden charges or fees. The Hospital Almater was up to my standards meaning I would feel comfortable bringing my friends and family to that hospital. Everyone that needed to speak English, spoke understandable English. If you have not traveled outside of the U.S., Mexicali may make you feel uncomfortable. I reminded myself that I wasn't here for a vacation, but for a very personal business trip. About the only negative aspect of this whole project is telling people that you went to Mexico for the surgery. The general perception of Mexico is not that great especially when brought up in a surgical context. I now know different. I can't speak for other surgical programs, but in dealing with Dr. Aceves and his staff I have been very pleased to say the least. The quote I always hear from people who have had WLS is that they would do it again in a heartbeat. In my experience with Dr. Aceves and his staff, I would have to agree.

I first met Dr. Aceves two years ago when I accompanied my sister to get the Lap-Band in Mexico. I was very impressed by him, his staff, and the facility. He came by to visit my sister much more often than my surgeons came to see me during my 4 surgeries here in the states. He and his staff were kind and efficient. I had the procedure done myself in Jan of '09. The staff made me feel as though I was the only patient in the hospital. Dr. Aceves and Dr. Compos explained the procedure very clearly using actual models of the Lap-Band and answered any questions before and after the procedure. Pain medicine was given very quickly when I requested it. The after-care instructions were available before the procedure through e-mails, and they reviewed them verbally with me as well as giving me a printed copy to take home. Whenever I needed to contact them, before or afterwards, my e-mails were promptly answered. I would strongly recommend Dr. Aceves to anyone considering bariatric surgery-even though it can be anxious having something serious done so far from home, the support staff are there to help you before, during, and after the procedure. It was a great experience! I really have nothing negative to say.
