Royal Oak Surgical Assoc. Bariatric Center
The consultation with Dr. Krause went very well. He was very, very thorough in going over all the information regarding his procedure, potential risks and what to expect during and after surgery. I am very comfortable with his experience, demeanor and professionalism.
Currently awaiting response back from Aetna - I have had my PCP records as well as the files from Beaumont Weight Control Centre forwarded to Dr. Krause for inclusion in the request to Aetna.
If all goes smooth, the surgery dates currently being allocated are for January.
The office staff has been very helpful in addressing all my questions thus far.
Update - Jan 26, 2005 - Having undergone surgery now I have to say that I consider Dr. Krause to be the best in his field. I was in good shape (no tubes, breathing apparatus, etc) when I awoke from surgery. He was confident enough in his skills and procedure that he did not have me go through the barrium swallow. He has performed this procedure laproscopically over 750 times. I was very, very confident in his skills.
I met with Dr.Krause after already being scheduled for surgery with another doctor. I really wanted surgery lap and i wanted to be at a good hospital in case something was too go wrong. I called his office the staff very helpful. I got a copy of all my records from my original surgeon and faxed it all to Dr.Krause office. Staff called the next day and I saw him within a week. He is incredibly intelligent and I feel I have made the right choice. I will update after surgery with more info on him.
Dr Krause was excellent.
Dr Krause is very young looking..so my first thought was " Doogy Hauser MD, and that I have shoe that are older than he is. But he impressed me from the moment I met him He was very knowledgeable and informative, and obviously passionate about his work. He gave me the facts but was not in any hurry to rush me into having the surgery. He said he would wait until I was ready. He was open and honest about the risks of surgery without being over done about it.
Nearly 1 year later I contacted him and then had the surgery- he was very patient, compassionate and understanding- and also a
very skilled and competent surgeon.
He has an excellent and well deserved reputation.
The people on his office staff are very nice too- though I didn't have much dealings with them. He works closely with your doctor's
regarding aftercare, and continues to take an active interest in your progress. I would give him high marks for surgical competence, and bedside manner.
My first impression of Dr. Kevin Krause was oh my God, he's young. He reminds me of Dougie Houser. But once, he spoke to share the information about the procedure I sense he was a competent, knowledgeable, and experienced surgeon in the area of bariatric surgery. He also seems to have genuine compassion and great senstivity for people who have obesity problems. Not once, did I sense a feeling of condemnation. I was also impressed by the people who were in the waiting room, they all had positive things to say about Dr. Krause. One lady, in particular, said that she had many complications. She had to have multiple surgeries because of her medical co-morbidities. She said Dr. Krause had really hung in there with her, and she was well on her way to losing weight and becoming healhthier. It was really a comfort to me to hear those testimonies. He really does emphasize that the surgery is a tool and that aftercare and change of lifestyle is what makes for a successful journey. He's very frank about the risks and he has two centers the Northpointe Health Center and Beaumont Weight Loss Clinic that he recommends for the aftercare program. I am with the Northpointe Health Center.
One thing that really impressed me is that as I have read the testimonies from the website, their is testimony after testimony that praise his high level of competence as a surgeon. I feel inspired by this and I feel like I have made the best choice.
I don't really have anything negative to say. I do acknowledge that I waited a long time for my consultation appointment. I had e-mailed Dr. Krause about the possibility of an earlier appointment, and do you know that he e-mailed me back. His staff also called to assure me that if there was a cancellation they would put me in that spot. So I appreciated that very much. I have my date and am preparing myself for the day.
I have come successfully through the surgery. Dr. Krause continues to show his professional expertise in the area as I do my aftercare. He is genuinely concerned for my well being.
One thing I want to share is that Dr. Krause allowed me to pray a prayer with him prior to my surgery. That really meant a great deal to me. He was very respectful and compassionate. I have never felt that he was condescending and condemming in any way.
Dr. Kevin Krause is reputed to be the best LBS in the area. His patients extole his thoroughness and compassion. As others have mentioned, it is frustrating to call his office and leave a message as opposed to speaking to someone in person. I am waiting for communication between the surgeon and the insurance carrier to take place. His tentative date for my surgery would be october 1st, approximately 3 months from the initial consult.
Pst-op he was there every day and showed genuine concern. His office has improved the system of answering the phone and is very responsive. Dr. Krauses message:
"Take your protein, drink your water and excercize and you will have phenomenal results." Simple directives!
I had a perfect surgery with no complications and would highly recommend Dr. Krause. He only does surgery a few days a week and the rest of the time is spent in pre and post exams.
He looks like Doogie Houser, not a bad thing, just looks young...probably because I am "old". He has done over 600 Lap RNY so he has lots of experience. He met with me and another patient before seeing us privately and explained the whole surgical process, starting with the "History" of WLS. I am glad I can have this done at Wm. Beaumont Hosp in Royal Oak....It's our "family" hospital...only about 5 miles from my home.
The practice in a General Surgery office, with Dr. Krause doing the bariatric surgery. The staff seem very informed...they are not worried about my insurance paying for it (BCBS)...they know that if I met their criteria, I am good to go. (They are not seeking pre-approval!!)
I think that Northpointe Health Center is the best. They do all the pre-op and post-op support for Dr. Krause...including Psych Eval, Dietician, Pre-op classes, checking your vitamin/mineral status...and "Tanking you up"...(for instance, my Vit B12 was a little low, so taking Vit B12 pills, and my Hemoglobin a little low...so taking Centrum with Iron..."tanking me up" before the surgery).
I think Dr. Krause is a very good surgeon and the support from Northpointe is the BEST!!
He was a phenomenal, competent, intelligent surgeon who did a SUPERB job on me. I had NONE of the horror stories that so many other WLS patients have described to me, nor did I have any tubes or discharge, or whatnot.
My initial impression and current post-op one are largely the same. He is quiet, serious, but polite man. In a surgeon, he is EXACTLY what I want.
His office staff. . . well, one of them is nice and friendly. They did get my insurance cleared, and fast, so they aren't all bad, hehe.
I feel that in a surgeon, competence trumps EVERYTHING. Dr. Krause was polite and pleasant enough for me. Plus, bottom line, he did a WONDERFUL job!
I really like Dr. Krause alot. At first I wasnt sure if I liked him or not. He is a bit quiet. But as time went on I reallyreally like him alot. His staff is nice although very busy. He really goes over the whole surgery from beginning to end, and gives you a history about weight loss surgery, I found him to be very informative. The after care is really important. He wont even see you unless you go to either Northpointe or Beaumont weight loss center and you are recommended by them to see Dr, Krause. He went over all the risks and makes sure you are aware of everything.
I made the decision to have the surgery with Dr. Krause in February. I've been going to Northpointe Health Center for my pre-approval process. It took 3 months to get the appt. with Dr. Krause and another 3 months to get my surgery date. I ffel he is worth the wait. Everything I have heard about him has been positive.
I was surprised because I had imagined him to be older than he is. He was very patient and thorough in explaining everything. However, going through Northpointe educates you to the point that there is not too much else anybody can add.
With Dr. Rifai at Northpointe and Dr. Krause as my bariatric angels, I had no qualms whatsoever and am looking so forward to my surgery date!
