I'll be meeting him next Tuesday 6/12/01.

UPDATE: Met Dr. Zorn on 6/12/01. He was just as kind and knowledgeable as everyone has said. I think he was a bit rushed (he just saw someone else and needed to see another patient)but he did take the time to answer all of my questions. He said I'd be a good candidate for LAP, but Kaiser does not yet approve LAP, although they are working on it. I'm impressed that he has done over 1,000 WLS. I am in good hands!

Dr. Rumsey introduced himself with a firm handshake and was very warm and down to earth. I can't think of one negative thing to say about the man. He has many years of experience, outstanding credentials and is an all around nice guy. What more could you want from a surgeon. He is a special man who has a lot of compassion for people. He explained everything to me. I understand exactly what is going to happen, what the risks are and what is expected of me post-op.

I met with my surgeon on June 1st. He was a nice man, answered my questions. I am confident in his abilities to take me to the "other side"!

2/27/01 I will finally get to meet Dr. Zorn for the first time 2 weeks and 2 days from today. I'm so tired and frustrated from the waiting. In the grand scheme of things it hasn't been all that long, but when each day is spent dealing with back pain and knee pain it seems like an eternity. I'm sure I'll feel better when I finally get my surgery date scheduled, or at least hear that the insurance has approved the procedure. Apparently the request isn't made until some time after the March 15 date. More waiting for paperwork~~big sigh. Dr. Zorn is the surgeon that does the RNY lap, so I will discuss that possibility with him. Wish me luck!
UPDATE 3/17/01 I met Dr. Zorn for my scheduled pre op appt on the 15th. I hate waiting, and of course I did have to wait quite some time for the doctor to get into the room. But once he got in there I did like him very much. At this point I feel safe in his hands. In regard to some of his staff and the internist he referred me to I am afraid I see a lot of room for improvement.
UPDATE 5/26/01 Had surgery a week ago. Don't know what happened, but apparently Dr. Zorn did everything right. I woke up in very little pain, and felt like nothing was done by the second day. I was lucky enough to have it done lap., and I couldn't be happier with the doctor or the results. Hope they get the problem with the office worked out soon, that and the wait were my main complaints.

DR. RUMSEY WAS PROFESSIONAL AND WARM AT THE SAME TIME. HE WAS SERIOUS WHEN TALKING ABOUT THE SURGERY AND HAD A GREAT SENCE OF HUMOR. HE WENT OVER SOME OF THE COMPLCATIONS THAT COULD HAPPEN AND THE PERCENTAGES THAT THEY HAVE HAPPENED AT PACIFIC BARIATRIC, THEY WERE VERY LOW.

I loved Dr. Zorn from the get go!

He's awesome.

My opinion is that he's a wonderful man, very caring and concerned!
The office staff seemed knowledgable and willing to help. They were great also!
He took his time to answer my questions, didn't make me feel stupid or bad for being overweight and having eaten myself out of control.
His aftercare emphasis is MANDATORY! You can't always see what's wrong, after care is of the utmost importance!

He discussed the risks and how certain ones pertained more to me than others. WE did this surgery together, not by myself.

There is nothing that is 'more' important than another thing, and Dr. Zorn has all of these under control and to top it off he's one of those 'early' doctors in the hospital so there's no great 'waiting period' to see him. He's there every morning, bright and early. I cant say anything bad about him! BIG SMILE......

The only bad thing was driving to San Diego before the surgery...HOWEVER, this group of doctors fly to Bakersfield once a month to do seminars AND follow up visits, so even the after care is made SIMPLE!

WOW! I mean, WOOOOOOW!!! I had a great consult with Dr. Zorn on Friday. I went in there armed with my 3 pages of questions ;-) but I only had to ask him a handful.... He anwered most of them before I got to ask them! He was patient, honest, direct - he asked me if I was in the medical field because of some of the questions I was asking him. Heh, heh...

He also said that I would be a great candidate for the lap, HOWEVER, I have Kaiser and they only cover OPEN. Phooey on Kaiser!

I have a surgery eval on March 9 with Dr. Sawiki from UCLA. Looking forward to meeting with him and asking him all my questions.... :)Will post after I meet with him. Decided not to go with UCLA, but am going with Pacific Bariatric in San Diego, because of two people I personally know who went there. There have suggested Dr. Zorn and said he was wonderful. I will be attending the informational meeting next Thrusday - May 10, 01 to hear more about everything and then will be able to post more.

My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was just that. I was very impressed, not only with his knowledge, but also with his warmth, understanding and genuine concern and caring.

I have the very same impression of Dr. Rumsey today.

His office staff was very friendly, extremely helpful and always willing to listen.

Aftercare is stressed over and again not only by Dr. Rumsey but the entire Pacific Bariatrics staff.

Yes, they have an excellent and very structured aftercare program including support group meetings.

Dr. Rumsey was very straightforward about surgery, it's risks and rewards.

Overall I give Dr. Rumsey and Pacific Bariatrics a 10+! I know this sounds too good to be true, but I have nothing negative to say about PB.

Both bedside manner and surgical competence are excellent
