Dr. Zorn was a very nice man. I am glad that he is going to be my surgeon. I didn't have a lot of time with him because he was about 1-1/2 hours behind schedule (stuck in surgery). However, he did take the time to explain everything to me and to answer all of my questions. We did not discuss aftercare except that I would be seen in Bakersfield. He did discuss how I would have to stay in San Diego for almost a week so he can see me post-op in his office. He explained that if he or the assistant surgeon feels that there is something that just isn't quite "right" in the lap procedure then they will open me up. He said they will need to be absolutely sure that everything is OK, if not, it's an open surgery.

Great man. No qualms about him doing my surgery.
He explained everything in detail. Very busy
waiting room, sometimes a long wait to see him.
Some of his staff in the front office need to
go to school to acquire a sense of humor!!
They seem to be extremely serious.

He was the best. I was so blessed to have gotten him. He is kind, considerate and most of all knowledgeable.

I met with Dr. Zorn and his staff. All were highly professional and pleasant to work with. The Pacific Bariatric Group in San Diego has really gone above and beyond the norm in their education of this type of surgery, their expectations of your following their instructions, and listening to your questions; concerns; fears; and taking the time to completely answer them. My contact has been Myla Acuan, who is a sweetheart. She has also been a great source of information and support, as she went through this surgery in August of 1993 (and still looks great!). I have found that a large number of the staff I have spoken with or met are prior patients of the RNY. I live outside of San Diego, and they made accommodations for me to have all my required appointments on the same day. The counselor; and internist appointments went by quickly, and I found myself at PB almost 2 hours early. While the front desk clerk was a bit short/abrupt in her attitude, I ended up being called in by Dr. Zorn 1 hour before my scheduled appointment with him. He made a point of putting me at ease, and his bedside manner is great. Although I came prepared with 3 pages of questions, he primarily answered these before I could ask them. We discussed at length the post-operative schedule of events, and what he expected of me. We also discussed at length the possibilty of Kaiser approving LAP, and his feelings on patients waiting. His attitude throughout the meeting was proffessional, and enjoyable (for being laid out on a slab; naked except for a gown and my socks! I give him an A+ for pre-surgery visits!

I really liked Dr. Zorn. He was very understanding, kind and explained most things quite well.

Had to write him a letter afterwards with some concerns, since I'm in Wisconsin. I have not yet heard back from him and hope that I will very soon!

My first impression of Dr. Rumsey was that he had "big hands" and I wondered if he need to make the incision larger to accommodate them!

He was very attentive and answered all questions. He did not seem to be in a hurry. I was confident that he was competent.

Office staff are very busy ...

Aftercare is emphasized and is critical to long=term success.

Not sure if there is a structured aftercare program ... there is a "peer" run support group but nutrional info seems inadequate particularly for newbys.

Dr. Rumsey was very thorough about answering questions regarding the risks of surgery. There was never any pressure to make a decision one way or the other ... always felt like it was mine to make right up to being wheeled into the operating room.

I'm glad I had Dr. Rumsey as a surgeon. He did an excellent job ... no complications, scaring is minimal, and he is available.

Surgical competence was best but bedside manner was good too.

Dr. Rumsey was very nice when I met him. He had preformed the surgery on some of my friends with great success.

Office staff weren't very friendly or helpful
Dr. Zorn is a good surgeon. I would like better aftercare.

Dr. Zorn was very pleasant. He provided all the information he thought I would want to know and allowed me to ask questions. I have not talked with him directly since my initial appointment. I have dealt with his staff which seem to be very helpful. I did have delays in getting forms completed and sent back to me. That was frustrating, it took 3 weeks to get some back.

Dr. Zorn is a very kind and compassionate surgeon. He took time with me to answer all of my questions. He answered most of them before I asked. I didnt feel like he was in a hurry to get our appointment over. The staff members were nice in his office. They were pretty busy though. He really emphasized the follow-up program after surgery and how important it was for me to do the best I could the first six months. I've heard him called a "Prince of Men" and I will have to agree.
