Pacific Bariatric Surgical Medical Group, Inc. Bariatric Center
I have only met with him once, he seems very nice. Has a good bed side manner and a good sense of humor. His staff is busy but always returns calls within one day and thinks no question is a stupid one. I'll know more after my surgery.
Post-op --Wow what a great Doctor. He also has a resident assisting him, Dr. Gallus, who was also as nice as could be. I actually saw Dr. Gallus more than Dr. Rumsey in the hospital, but that didn't bother me. Saw Dr. Rumsey for the post-op appt 4 days after release from hospital, he was very direct about my condition and what the next steps were for me to follow.
1 month follow-up -- I love this Doctor more every time I meet with him. So kind and gentle, even gave me a hug at the end of my appointment. Really believes in the work he is doing and I beleive he would do anything to help make me successful. Only one thing I could say negative, not even sure it's a bad thing, but he isn't a great conversationalist and doesn't ask alot of questions, just waits for you to bring stuff up, so make sure you ask lots of questions, make a list if you have to. He will answer any question and talk about any subject, just don't expect him to offer information.
Dr. Rumsey was very nice during my initial examination. Afterward he invited my mom in for the question and answer session. He answered all of our questions in full, as well as the risks. He wrote down each risk and what percentage it was and what we'd do to minimize it. My mom and I both thought he was very kind and had a good bedside manner.
He was very positive and assuring at every visit in the hospital, and he was very encouraging. I enjoyed his visits and the updates as to my progress.
The only complaint I have is that I didn't get to see a nutritionist before leaving the hospital, and when i asked him if I was going to he said they'd just go over the same stuff I had in my packet. However, once I got hme and was reading it I still had a lot of questions;questions I wrote down and am taking to HIM at my fallow up appt. in 2 days. Both his bedside manner and surgical competence are great, on a 1-10 scale I'd give him a 9, because no ones perfect :)

I just went with to the seminar yesterday (mandatory before your consultation) and Dr. Tanaka was the speaker. He is hilarious. He had been filling in for three other doctors at the hospital and was incredibly tired but still answered every question and proved his intelligence with every statement. I felt really really comfortable with his knowledge and am going to ask that he be my surgeon. He is definately a sarcastic fellow but he doesn't give you any bull and I like that! I think he should get more rest though (especially around my surgery :) !)

New Update: Well I have been assigned to Dr. Zorn. This is kinda of a relief because I have heard some bad things about Dr. Tanaka (great surgeon bad bed-side manner). My friend just had her consult with him and he basically was very grumpy and rushed her through the whole thing because he was in a hurry and acted like his time was too valuable for her. I have heard fabulous things about Dr. Zorn both about his skill and his wonderful nature and his encouragement for success. I am so pleased with this new development.

I met with Dr. Zorn yesterday. He is the nicest man. I feel totally at ease in his capable hands. He was patient as I asked him questions. He gave off a really good vibe and I had a smile as I left his office knowing I picked the right surgeon.
Dr. Zorn is an intense individual, but you can tell he is kind and caring. He first asked what I knew about the surgery, and then filled in the details. He also told me he thought I would do well with this surgery, given that I am already pretty active. He put me at ease. He is the first Dr. I have dealt with in a long time, that doesn't look you up and down, and shake their head, like they are judging you based on your size, as a failure.
He is well rounded in promotion of aftercare, explanation of risks, surgical competence and bedside manner.
Hopefully, this will carry over throughout my whole surgery process.
I meet with Dr. Zorn only once so far and liked him right away. He was friendly and took his time answering all of my questions i diden't feel rushed at all. Had heard that he stressed aftercare, but diden't with me. I was disappointed with that. The reciptionist was polite, but not very friendly. All the rest of the staff was great and made me feel very comfortable. Over all i was pleased.
I've only spoken to Dr. Zorn once during my three consults in San Diego. He's very caring and pleasent with his patients. The staff at Pacific Bariatric have been great. They have always been very helpful in answering any questions or addressing any concerns I had. Dr. Zorn was very specific about telling me to join the support group in my area even before I have the surgery. He was very open about the risks but he feels as I do that there is just as much if not more risk remaining the way I am.I believe surgical competence and bedside manner are equally important.
Dr. Zorn is a very nice doctor. When I first met him, he made me feel very at ease. I was able to talk to him about my weight and for the first time, I wasn't nervous or embarrassed. He and the office staff at Pacific Bariatric have always made me feel welcome and are very professional, yet very friendly.
Dr. Zorn definately emphazizes aftercare. I have seen him 2-3 times since my surgery along with my primary care physician. Dr. Zorn always answers my questions, sometime before I can even ask them!
I feel that Dr. Zorn's surgical competence and bedside manner are great. I'm very happy I got him as my Dr.
