I had my consult appointment with Dr. Batay-Csorba (8/17/01). He was a very pleasant and patient doctor. He explained to me very clearly how the surgery would be done. He also requested some additional tests be accomplished before the surgery is done. He was patient and kind as he gave me as much time as I needed to ask any questions I had. Although, he was thorough enough that there were very few. He then introduced me to my patient representative, Melanie. She was a true "Sweetheart" also. The care, understanding, and compassion shone to me by Dr. Batay-Csorba and the staff was unlike anywhere I have ever been before.
HE WAS WONDERFUL AND VERY KIND AND PROFESSIONAL.. MY OPINION IS STILL THE SAME I LOVE HIM TO DEATH!!! (SMILE)
HE HAS HIS OWN WEB SITE AT WWW.WEIGHTLOSSSURGERY.COM
THE OFFICE STAFF IS VERY KIND AND SWEET.
IF YOU VISIT HIS SITE YOU WILL FIND OUT MORE ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF PROCEDURE HE DID. I LIKE THE FACT HE HAS DONE OVER 1800 OF THESE PROCEDURES AND nobody TO THIS DAY HAS NEEDED A REVISION DUE TO "STAPLE LINE BREAKDOWN"ETC..
AFTERCARE IS IMPORTANT.. FOLLOWING A DIET HE GIVES POST OP..WITH PROTIEN ETC...HE IS STRUCTURED..
HE DISCUSSED AT THE CONSULT THE RISKS OF THE SURGERY RIGHT UP FRONT.. VERY DIRECT AND HE GAVE ME THE OPTION TO ASK AS MANY QUESTIONS I NEEDED TO.
MY OVERALL RATEING FOR HIM ON A SCALE OF 1-10 IS A 50+...
HE COMBINES HIS SURGICAL COMPETENCE AND HIS BED SIDE MANNER TO MAKE HIM A ALL ROUND GREAT MAN...
I DONT REGRET SEEING HIM AND I DRIVE 11-12 HRS TO SEE HIM EVERY 3 MONTHS ...
THE DETROIT RIVERVIEW HOSPITAL NURSING STAFF AND NURSING ASSISTANTS WERE NOT VERY HELPFUL, I FILED A COMPLAINT TO THE HOSPITAL ABOUT MY ISSUES WITH VARIOUS STAFF AND THE PRESIDENT OF THE HOSPITAL WROTE BACK AND ASSURED ME THOSE ISSUES WILL BE HANDLED. THAT WAS THE ONLY BAD THING ABOUT MY HOSPITAL STAY.
I had a very good first impression of my surgeon, he seemed compassionate and not judgmental about my weight problem and while he was very informative, I did not feel as though he was trying to talk me into the surgery. My first impression did not change over time.
His office staff was very helpful his assistant, Carmella, went to bat for me when the paperwork needed for insurance approval was unnecessarily delayed by another physician's office. With her help I was able to have the surgery scheduled first and then received the insurance approval shortly thereafter.
I do not think there is a great emphasis on aftercare by this office since Dr. Edelman recomends that each patient continue with nutritional and and pschological help from an individual with whom they are comfortable.
Dr. Edelman adequately addressed the risks of the surgery and overall I felt he is a very talented surgeon with an excellent bedside manner.
Since this is a very new form of WLS, there are some office details, handouts and information given to patients and discharge instructions which I sure will be improved in the future. My biggest gripe though, was with Baptist Hospital. While this staff was mostly wonderful, they somehow could not come up with a large size gown to on the day of my surgery. This made trying to move around the room and sit up in chairs during the first 24 hours following surgery more uncomfortable than necessary. Also, the a/c did not work in our room -or for that matter the whole hall and only after several hours of wrangling a wonderful technician brought a portable cooler to my room.
I instantly felt very comfortable with Dr.Eldleman. He answered all of my questions and put me at ease.
His office staff was excellent. They were very educated on the procedure and willing to answer any questions I had.
At this point in my journey I have only experienced good things about Dr. Edleman.
Dr. Edleman shared with me the risks of the surgery, and assured me that he would do everything to assure a smooth procedure.
I would rate Dr. Edleman an excellent for his bed side manner and also for his admiration as a surgeon.
I have only heard about his surguries because I have not have mine done yet, but I have only heard excellent reviews.
Dr. Wood, seems to be to good to be true he informed me and my friend of all the complacations that may occur during the surgery and after.I feel confident in him to do the surgery. i have concerns about the hosptial staff i heard a few complaints in Dr.Wood's office from patients that scares me a little, they said to have someone there to make sure the aides mainly do there job.
His staff were all very friendly. Dr. Wood stressed this is not a cure this a tool and i also have to work at it and do what im suppose to do. His office does have support meetings. It appears Dr Wood has both bedside manner and surgical competence.I will add more to this after surgery to see if i still feel the same about him.....06-03-2000 dr wood was wonderful he saved my life and his medical residents were wonderful i give dr wood a 10. the nurses for the most part were very good there are always a few bad apples. the hosiptal housekeeping stunk !!!and dr woods staff continue to be very understanding!!!!!!!!!!!
DR WOODS WAS WONDERFUL AND EXPLAINED IN DETAIL WHAT I COULD EXPECT AND WHAT WA EXPECTED OF ME.
THE OFFICE STAFF IS ALWAYS WILLING TO HELP YOU LOVE THE 800 NUMBER.
I WOULD REFEER ANYONE INTERESTED IN THIS SURGERY TO HIM. ONE ON ONE CARE GIVEN.
THEY EMPHASIZE NUTRITION AND COMMUNICATION.
HAVE SUPPORT GROUPS IN DETROIT.
I WOULD GIVE DR. WOOD A 10+
THE HOSPITAL STAFF AT ST. JOHNS REALLY KNOW HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOU.
THE INTERNET HELP ME CHOOSE HIM FOR THE MICRO POUCH VS THE MINI. RESEARCH.
MY first impression of Dr. Wood was that he was a nice and intelligent man who was very detailed oriented and let you know what your were getting into without no suprises. My impression did not change over time. His office staff was very friendly and helpful and not judgemental and that made me feel real good. There was nothing I did not like about Dr. Woods. Future patients should know that he has been performing roux en y for twenty five years and that he is the inventor of the micropouch and that his pouch does not stretch at all. He emphasizes aftercare a lot and also stress that you should come to all of your follow up doctor appointments. Dr. woods does have a structured aftercare program and you have to follow the program or you will not only be sick you will be unsuccesful. Dr. Woods did not sugarcoat the risks of the surgery and was very thorough in explaining all of the risks. I would rate Dr. Woods on a scale of 1-100 I would give him a 150 above excellent he is absolutely the best. Also he has excellent bedside manner and is as competent as they come.
