Your New Self - DMC Weight Loss Solutions Bariatric Center
I've talked with Dr. Wood twice. Once at the group seminar and then at a consult in his office. I have read many profiles stating that he is nice, caring, a good listener, thorough, etc. Guess what - he really is just that. He wants his patients to succeed and truly cares. God blessed me with this man as my surgeon - and I haven't even had the surgery yet. I feel very confident that Dr. Wood will do an excellent job. I would recommend him in a heart beat.
Dr. Wood is a kind and caring Dr. I had a problem with my shots, it was the weekend but I had to page him because I didn't know what to do.(It was the weekend) He called me back with in minutes. (I live a good distance away from the hospital so I couldn't easily go there.) Anyway, He helped me make the decisions about the drug that needed to be made and he was very gracious and caring. He didn't make me feel like I was putting him out. He even called me back the next day to check up on me and to make sure I was okay!!!
When I went to my first check up 11 days later he impressed me again. I was introducing him to my daughter and he said he remembered her from the hospital and he mentioned a little about what they had talked about. I couldn't believe it. As busy as he is, I felt like I was his only patient. I really believe he cares about his patients.
Dr. Wood may the Lord Bless you and your family.
The consultation went well. You definitely get the whole picture. Dr. Wood did not sugar coat the risks and the life changes. He addresses the risks of the surgery and how he and his staff attempt to mitigate those risks. He was emphatic about the importance of aftercare and lifelong followups. I appreciated all of this information, I would have been more worried if he didn't address these issues.
I have also been very impressed with his patient coordinator Amy Balaize. Though a couple of the people that worked with her during my consultation could really use some refreshers.
Dr Woods is a very nice and caring man. There was not one thing I did'nt like about him !! He spent alot of time explaining everything and answering questions , then saw all of his patients indiviually. He fuuly explained all risks and what the aftercare would be. Every aspect of how he deals with his patients is truly wonderful and amazing !! On a scale of 1-10 I rate him a definite 10+ !!!
My first impression of Dr Wood is that he wanted to help me, not judge or humiliate me. Before, during and after surgery, I found Dr Wood to be most helpful, normally its the support staff that understands the patient and not the surgeon, but in this case it was Dr Woods connection with myself that me most comfortable. The least thing I liked about my initial consultation at the Cori Center, was two nurses asking me why I chose surgery instead of a traditional weight loss plans, that if I would just diet I could reach my goal weight. The before, during, and after care was excellent. I only hate to go for check ups because you have to wait so long. I drive from Kalamazoo for a 1pm appt. and have to wait 2 to 3 hours to see the Dr.
I have heard that many surgeons have a 'God" complex, and, given the number of lives Dr. Wood has saved, he could certainly be forgiven if he had one, but he doesn't. His pre-surgery talk to our group seemed to me to be a little over the heads of the people there - I worry that people who can't read well won't have the info to make a really informed decision, particularly when it comes to what you must do to get the best results. Fortunately, it looks like the doctor's integrity is such that he does everything possible to insure success results.
Dr. Wood is very thorough, and is considered to be one of the best in the country by his peers. It's too bad this surgery can't be done laparoscopically.
I am very, very unhappy about the fact that there is no structured, intensive group therapy lead by a licensed psychotherapist. This, I assume, is a failing of the management company ( CORI ). It is appalling to me that something this life-changing doesn't have adequate counseling available to post-operative patients ( and I don't mean just anybody, but someone with a real PRACTICE, not just PRACTICING with the enlightenment to know why it is necessary ).
The office staff has been pretty good overall - some have been outstanding; some show why "good help is hard to find". Mera did an incredible job in getting me what I've needed. Overall, the staff seem quite competent and well organized. None of my documents have gone lost or missing, and I get called back reliably.
THE SWAMI SEZ:
As in all things in life, though, it is ultimately our own responsibility to take care of ourselves and followup on things to make certain that the process is working smoothly.
Doctor Wood was very kind and gentle. He did everything he could to make you feel comfortable. Through the whole hospital stay he visited me everyday and made sure I had everything I needed. Doctor Wood was very informative on the different types of surgery for weight loss there were and the risks for them all. The only downfall is doctor Wood is good and does his best so everyone wants him to be their doctor. Doctor visits are an all day affair and the staff don't get back to you right away.
