Norfolk Surgical Group Bariatric Center
I was a pre-packaged deal coming from Dr. Doxey, brfore he moved to Arizona. I really had a great first meeting with Dr. Snyder and he was very informative. He made sure that I realized this surgery was only a tool. His secretary stayed on my insurance til it was approved and she was very well knowlwdged in the insurance field. Crystal was just a God-send when it came to insurance. I was approved within 2 weeks I think it was. She always returned calls in a timely manner and I just can't say enough great things about her!!
Dr Snyder was great after surgery and always right there for any questions I may have had. I did have acomplications during surgery, but he got me through it with no problems and I would highly recommend him to anyone. After-all, he did train under Dr. Doxey I am told....SMILE!!! Thanks Dr. James G. Snyder for saving my life!!!
I have only had an initial visit with the Dr. He was very professional and didn't sugar coat this surgery and stressed the seriousness of the procedure and the possibilities of complications. His staff was very nice as well and made me feel at ease and not embarassed. Norfolk Surgical Group has a great monthly support group which I have attended. He emphasized aftercare and that this is a total committment to a lifestyle change. I have not had my surgery so I cannot tell you about competence, but my primary care physician gave him an excellent regommendation. I like a straightforward Dr. so I was impressed with his professionalism and thoroughness.
When i meet with Dr. George Hoffman he was very professional, concerned, and polite explained the surgery and the after care. What to expect,he explained that thisis a life long thing, and very serious sergery.he told me about the B12 i may have to takeand the vitaminsthat would be alifelong thing. The holdstaff was extremely professional, lots ofsmiles willing to answer all your questions.I feelvery confortable with Dr. George Hoffman and his staff.
He seemed likeable enough, he went thru the normal questions (so it seemed, "like I would know"). My appointment time was on schedule, as soon as I got there (10 minutes early) they called me right in and I saw him.
I have only met him once.
His staff is very pleasant and prompt.
He talked abt the post op directions for the 1st month being very crucial, not to stray.
he gave me all the risks and talked abt why they have occured.
He was very polite and semed to be interested in helping me and not just for the business.
I really valued the honesty of Dr. Boustany. He made positively sure that I was doing this for the right reasons. My overall opinion of him is he is a great doctor and surgeon. His staff is very helpful. If anyone should go to him in the future, he is very upfront about the risks and statistics of death with or without the surgery. He told me "if you are doing this to become a G.Q. model, you should rethink this very hard. However if you want to be healthier and live longer, I think I can help you." He couldn't emphasize aftercare enough. He wanted to know if I haad any pain, drainage, etc. I would have to say, bedside manner and surgical competence are both important, and Dr. Boustany has both.
my dr. is going to be george hoffman . i say he is an older more experienced dr. this makes me more confident about the surgery. he seemed very sympathetic with me and my weight problem.i feel confident as can be with him and was referred by my mammogram office employee.she said he performed an emergency surgery on her mother that saved her life from a ruptured colon.
When I decided to explore the surgery in depth I asked a number of doctors I know who the best surgeon in Norfolk for this kind of procedure was. The unanimous answer was George Hoffman. I made an appointment with him and went in with a long list of questions. He answered all my questions and provided me with about 100 pages of technical reports on the procedure which I read later. There was no pressure to do it or not do it. He agreed I was a candidate due to my weight and co-morbidities. His office handled the filing of insurance and I more or less tabled the whole thing until I learned if it would be covered. Several weeks later someone from the doctor's office called to say it was approved and within a day or two Trigon provided me with a letter to that effect. I called and told Dr. Hoffman's office to go ahead and schedule the procedure and set me up with whatever pre-surgery testing he wanted. The whole process has been handled efficiently and without fuss and I expect the same from the surgery itself.
10/1/01: A quick post surgery update; Dr. Hoffman was fantastic. He saw me twice daily in the hospital. After sending me home he called the house the next day to see how I was doing. He has seen me twice in the 3 weeks since surgery and we have another appointment for 10/9. He even called me at the office last week to see how I was doing. This is the busy senior member of a large surgical practice and yet he seems to have all the time in the world to see to my welfare. Most impressive and the actual work was flawless too!
Pre-Op:
He was very easy to talk to, very positive, but also very realistic. He gave me a large packet of information that contained diets, articles and info on the surgery. He was very honest and open that I would have to take the initiative to exercise once my surgery was done.
Operation:
What a god-send! He was so AWESOME!! His bedside manner is so incredible, and trust me I'm VERY picky. He came in to the pre-op area and held my hand, was very positive and upbeat. When I was wheeled into the operating room he held my hand until I was completely put under. My mom loved him, he was out right away when we were done and briefed her. We'll see how things go post op. He is wonderful, I will give his name to a million people without a second thought.
