Mexicali Bariatric Center Bariatric Center
I had my gastric sleeve done by Dr. Wilhemy 6.5 weeks ago. I started out at 311 pounds and am already down to 264 pounds. I was wearing 44" waist jeans and am down to 38" waist jeans as of today. :) Everyone throughout the entire process was amazing. Everything was explained in great detail before the surgery began by Dr. Wilhemy an all his staff. They went out of their way to make me very comfortable. If you have any reservations about having surgery, don't. I would do it all over again and I would chose Dr. Wilhemy and Mexicali Bariatric all over again. I am happily anticipating a longer life to enjoy with my family. My blood pressure meds have already been cut in half and I fully expect to not need my c-pap machine within the next few months. This is a real life changer. I would be happy to answer any questions from anyone contemplating having surgery.
Dr. Campos is an integral member of the Mexicali Bariatric Center team. His medical oversight of my post-op surgical care was paramount and he is still advising me and my local physician two weeks after my surgery. Dr. Campos visited me several times every day during my stay at the hospital, and saw to all my physical, pharmaceutical, and dietary needs. I'm very happy to have his continuing support during my recovery, and I thank him, and all my new friends at Mexicali Bariatric Center.
Dr. Esquerra and his surgical team were all informative and compassionate professionals, put me at ease, and inspired great confidence upon my arrival into their expert care. I had been turned down for bypass surgery on several occasions in the past and had nearly lost hope for what remained of my future. Despite a surgery that took twice as long as planned, Dr. Esquerra has given me a second chance to own my future success. I'm two weeks out now, learning how to eat all over again, and Dr. Esquerra and the Mexicali Bariatric Center team is still right behind me, supporting my recovery all the way. I am so grateful for this opportunity, and very thankful for Antonio Esquerra and all my new friends at Mexicali Bariatric Center. It's never too late to start, and your journey begins here with Dr. Antonio Esquerra, and the Mexicali Bariatric Center.

I can not say enough positive things about Dr. Esquerra and the rest of the Mexicali team. I had a sleeve revision to the DS done by Dr. Esquerra on January 7, 2016. He was extremely compassionate and professional. He made me feel at ease and not only did my DS go flawlessly but it I felt like Dr. Esquerra spent time answering my questions and putting me at ease. I would recommend MBC very highly. I feel Dr. Esquerra is the best at performing the Duodenal Switch surgery! I would have no qualms about sending my family to receive Bariatric Surgery with Dr. Esquerra, as a matter of fact I will be accompanying my sister to Mexicali in May for her surgery. MBC is like a Medical Spa!

Hey everyone!
I just wanted to share my amazing experience with Dr. Wilhelmy and MBC. I got a sleeve on Oct 7 and it's one of the best decisions I've ever made. Everyone was so amazing, punctual, professional and caring. I similarly read about 100 experiences before making the decision to do it, and if that's where you are right now, I really recommend continuing. All of the amazing things you read are true. My stepbrother came with me, and I do recommend a companion, it can get a little lonely (they have a big couch, pillow and blanket for them, plus the hospital food is amazing).
I'm a 23-year-old medical student in Kentucky, so I completely understand how ridiculous it feels to genuinely consider bariatric surgery in Mexico. But it was an amazing experience, I never felt unsafe or unreasonably uncomfortable (it is surgery, so there is pain, etc.) But I did it over our fall break and went back to school the next week!
I do want to mention that my body had a rough time recovering from surgery, but that had nothing to do with a botched surgery or anything like that at all. I just kept getting nauseous and dehydrated and my liver enzymes went through the roof for whatever reason (despite negative hep panels). I also had 33 days of heavy vaginal bleeding. But honestly I think my body was just freaking out about not getting food. But even considering that, I managed to stay enrolled in medical school, and by November I felt AMAZING. And still do. I was 225 on October 7th and currently weight 160 now. But keep in mind, it's surgery, not magic. Although even as a future physician myself, some days I feel like it is magic.
DO IT DO IT DO IT DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can never thank enough for what Dr. Wilhelmy and Mexicali Bariatric Center has done for me... I had my sleeve done on August 25th, 2015, and it's been only a short matter of time and I feel so very close to my goal weight already. The doctor answered all my doubts, and even the staff members and nurses were so very kind and would answer any question that I had. I had an amazing experience with them. They would constantly check up on me to see how I felt and if I needed something. They are truly interested in my wellbeing and how I progress with my successful sleeve! I'm glad I decided to have my surgery with Dr. Wilhelmy, not only I have a comfortable sleeve, but I only have very small and neat marks from the laparoscopic procedure. Five stars from me!
My VSG was done 10\13\2015 with Dr. Wilhelmy. I am extremely pleased with my pre and post-op care. Dr. Wilhelmy kept telling me this was the best decision I have made for my life and I completely agree. Two members of the bariatric team have been sleeved themselves and their sympathy toward the transition was obvious.
I started interacting with Mexicali Bariatric Center in late spring and had my heart set on DS surgery with Dr. Ungson, but things came up at work and I had to delay until fall. When I was ready to actually book, I was told that Dr. Ungson had accepted a prestigious government job and was no longer doing surgery, but that his protege, Dr. Antonio Esquerra, was taking over. None of the DS veterans I knew had heard of Dr. Esquerra and I was a bit hesitant, but knowing that he was trained by Dr. Ungson - a DS surgeon with a stellar reputation - was very reassuring. After a lot of checking, and after checking with someone scheduled just a week before me, I decided to go ahead with the surgery.
My surgery was October 3, 2015. Dr. Esquerra took time to answer all my pre-op questions and was quite informative. He also has a calm, reassuring manner that really put me at ease. Surgery was uneventful and my hospital stay was a good experience - I was never in any serious pain and by day 3 I was only sore but not in pain at all.
From start to end, it was a very good experience. The MBC doctors and staff are wonderful. The hospital facility, Almater Hospital is very clean and the nursing staff is very attentive - moreso than the US hospitals I've been in. I recommend MBC and Dr. Esquerra.

Hi there everyone
I had a gastric sleeve on June 25th, 2015. Dr. Ungson was my surgeon at Mexicali Bariatric Center.
This was the best decision that I have ever made in my entire life. Hands down. I do not have any regrets at all. Not only am I happy that I had the surgery, I am thankful and happy that I went with Dr. Ungson. I did a lot of research before I committed and I appreciated how professional, accommodating, and responsible this team was.
Everything went as planned. I was well taken care of, and the facility was beyond my expectations. I felt very safe, and I am so glad that I made this choice.
Their follow up care is awesome, it was not a "butcher shop", my room was so very clean, the nurses were so sweet. I could keep going and going. I believe that they changed my life. I have had multiple surgeries in the states and none of them compare to the treatment and care I received in Mexicali.

I had a Spatz-3 Balloon placed by Dr. Campos almost 10 days ago. The whole team, including coordinator Yolanda Equia worked flawlessly to allow everything to happen smoothly. I was surprised that the procedure was done in an actual hospital...I was expecting to be in a small dingy clinic somewhere. dr. Campos explained everything in advance, what to expect, lifestyle changes, and medications.
The procedure went smoothly! I woke up feeling alright (still drugged and with IV nausea medicine in my system), and was escorted to the pharmacy to purchase all my medications. I will just warn you some people had no adverse effects. My first 2 days after the procedure I was cramping and vomiting everything up and was not ale to hold down the medications or water, but by the second evening I began being able to keep the medications down and felt sooooo much better. I last vomited that 2nd day. 10 days in and I still get slight cramping when I drink something cold, but I am able to eat regular foods (just very small portions or I get nauseous). I was feeling well enough to work after 6 days. I now eat about as much as my 4-year old, or possibly less. I have lost 4 pounds so far and am feeling up to start working out on my next day off from work.
THANK YOU DR. CAMPOS!!!!!!!!
