Laparoscopic Bariatric Specialist Bariatric Center
Dr McColgan seems extremely knowledgeable regarding bariatric surgery and pioneering laparascopic and remote surgical techniques. He was very approacheable and easy to talk to and fairly detailed in describing the various bariatric options/risks/complications and results.rnThe only negative thing is that, at the time of my surgery, (2002) the after care program wasn't very good. If I hadn't been in the medical profession I would have been completely lost.
Dr. Dahiya and Dr. Duetsch were excellent in their care for me. I am 3 years out from my surgery and no longer live in California. I am sad to see that Dr. Duetsch is no longer with the team. Dr. McClogan I felt was rude and impersonable. He might be a good surgeon but his bed side manner proved to me how arrogant he was. I would recommend either Dr. Dahiya or Dr.Duetsch but I would not allow Dr. McClogan to have anything to do with my care ever again. The staff was great and the after care was also good.
Dr McColgan was one of the coolest guys ive ever met! He was more like a buddy to me than an actual surgeon. There was never a time that i felt i couldnt talk to him or tell him something. His staff is super nice and always went out of their way to help me out. I highly recommend his office if you are searching for a surgeon! I had absolutely NO complications after my surgery. I was admitted Mon, released Wed, and went back to work Fri. They probably wouldnt have advised i went back to work so soon, but i was getting stir crazy in my own house and had to get, plus i felt nearly 100%. Overall, this group rates a 10 on my scale! No gripes at all. Well, would have been nice to have had his office and hospital closer to me, but what can you do!
Thanks for everything Dr McColgan and staff!!!!!

My First Impression was "Great"! However, I have referred 5 other frinds one being my husband since my surgery back 8/04/03, and Dr. McColgan, never said thank you or anything! infact my opinion of his practice has changed complete! they never return calls, and when they do their rude, the night before my husband was scheduled for his pre-op and pre-admit for his surgery, Erica from the office called and requested my husband to pay money that according to Erica Blueshield had sent out a check which never was received by us or them and after my husband and Erica got into a screaming match Dr. McColgan calls back him self and tells my husband he cancelled my husbands surgery! and that he also is requesting a deposit it of $7,000.00 towards the hospital bill. My husband explained to Dr. McColgan that Bulesheild stopped payment on the $700.00 that was in question and that another one was being issued and reminded him (Dr. McColgan)that I had referred 5 people to him and not even a thank was ever mentioned. my husband say Dr. McColgan said "Yeah I know" but you neeed to pay for that check Bluesheid mail out. My husband told all of them their only in this for the money and not for what best for your patients. All I say is BEWARE for this Doctor and his office staff. I will say I have never gotten sick or any problems.
I found Dr. McColgan to be very knowledgable, patient and understanding. His office staff is always pleasant and helpful.
Aftercare is emphasized and mandatory. They want you to succeed. Monthly meetings are scheduled.
The risks of surgery we explained throughly and extra tests ordered to cover my specific medical problems. He allowed me to get all my clearances from my own doctors (Cardiologist, Psychiatrist etc) so I felt I was really being cleared instead of pushed down the assembly line.
My surgical team actually consists of Dr. Deutsch, Dr. Dahiya and Dr. McColgan. At this point I have met them all. My time with Dr. Deutsch was limited, but my overall perception was 'what a dynamic trio'. They all have very different styles and personalities, I felt confortable and confident with all of them.

I am now more than one year post-op and my respect of and confidence in this group and practice has only grown. Their follow-up program is award winning. When ever I call with a question or concern, they are right on top of if. The are still doing follow-up with me, even after a year, just in case. They ordered blood work at six months and 12 months to make sure things were okay on that end. I have now seen each of the Dr. in this medical group for at least two visits and they are all wonderful. They have added a new surgeon to their team and while I can't remember his name, he is equally great. I would definately recommend considering this group if you are looking to have Laproscopic WLS. Their website is http://www.lbsgone.com. Check them out.
I am very impressed with Laparoscopic Bariatric Specialists; I have always been greeted with a smile and told ahead of time exactly what was going to happen and the next step in the process
My doctors; Dahiya, McColgan, and Deutsch were wonderful and answered every question I had with patience and confidence. I met with them all and they all stopped by to see me after surgery. Dr. McColgan has a wonderful bedside manner – he seems to have all the time in the world for me when I am with him.
The office staff is friendly and is either very good at remembering their patients both in person and on the phone or excellent at faking it! The nurses are very friendly, and put me at ease when I was in their care.
When I first saw the office and hospital, it was hard not to do a complete 180 and forget the whole thing. The office is in an old building and the hospital across the street is tiny. But after meeting with them I felt much better.
So far so good, I am encouraged to call with any questions or concerns and am reminded often that that is what they are there.
I highly recommend Laparoscopic Bariatric Specialists.
