Center for Obesity Surgery Bariatric Center
My surgeon is a very compassionate Dr. He explained the procedure thoroughly and gave the answers to any questions I asked. I recommend him to anyone in the DC area thinking about this procedure. The office staff were very patient and informative. I liked everything about him. Future patients should know he is very knowledgeable in this field of surgery. He emphasizes the after care is the most important thing to pay attention to after your procedure. He has a very structured aftercare program. He tells you first hand of all the risks of the surgery. He is the best Dr. in this area.
My surgery is scheduled for April 7, so my experience with Dr. Afram is limited so far. I have pre-op meetings scheduled for April 2 with the nutritionist, support group, other staff, and Dr. Afram. So far, we (my husband and I) have been impressed with Dr. Afram and his staff. They seem very competent and professional, but also fun and friendly. Stay tuned, and see whether my opinion "sticks"! :)
I met with Dr. Afram for the first time on Tuesday, March 11th. My first impression is a positive one. He is really nice. He is genuinely concerned about your feelings and helping you get healthy. Any questions I had, he took the time to answer them. I had brought my mom with me for support. I thought she would just have to wait in the waiting room but he welcomed her and encouraged having someone to come with you and support you. He explained everything to us and it was wonderful having that support. His office staff is super. They are handling all of the insurance letters and told me exactly what I need to do to prepare for the surgery and what to expect. I would highly recommend Dr. Afram.
Dr. Afram has always been very informative, with a calm, reassuring demeanor. That is one of the reasons I chose him. He has done over 2400 of these procedures and runs one of the Bariatric Centers in this area. He has a very good aftercare program, with 2 different weekly meetings, run by the nutritionist and psychologist. Both of these women are super nice and have wonderful information. Due to a snow storm, I didn't get to meet the nutritionist before my surgery, but we talked on the phone. Then she stopped in at the hospital to check in on me! His PA, Jace (spelling?) at the hospital was just wonderful.
In the hospital, Dr. Afram always laid a hand on my arm while he was talking to me and I found that very comforting.
I would definitely recommend Dr. Afram and his staff in the Washington DC area.
My first impression of Dr. Afram was that he's extremely experienced and knowledgeable about WLS. He has performed surgery on thousands of patients and from what I understand has a very low rate of complications. I will say...He's very direct. He explains everything well and answers questions well. He's attentive and understanding. I am so glad I selected Dr. Afram as my surgeon. I highly recommend him to others looking to have WLS.
He is a very nice man, he explained everything in detail, and he'll answer any question you have.
My impression has not changed of him.
His office staff was just the best the are very nice and willing to help you with anything.
I can't say that there was anything I didn't like about him.
You must listen very carfully when he talks becasue of his acsent.
He emphasizes aftercare very much so.
I have not had my pre-op visit yet so i do not know what his aftercare program is yet.
He explains the risks of surgery very well, the simple way to avoid these risks is to do JUST as told! Cheating is about just cheating yourself anymore, it's much more serious of an outcome!
I would rate Dr. Afram an 8, after all NO doctor is perfect, they are just "practicing".
Both.
I was very impressed with his office. The people are very friendly, and I had an opportunity to meet with 5 post-op patients while waiting for my consultation.
Dr. Afram does not do a hard sell on you. He tells you why you should have the surgery, but you know that already. He also explained fully how the surgery would go, and answered my husband's questions about the safety of the operation.
Before I can have surgery, I have to meet with a psychologist, a nutritionist, attend an aftercare support group, have a physical and blood work, and have radiology performed.
He knows what he's doing, and doesn't take chances with you or your life.
Dr. Afram is out of network on my health insurance plan, but I am quite happy to pay the money insurance doesn't cover.
Initial consultation scheduled for Tues. 1/7/03. I have been doing alot of reading and research over the past few months and just can't wait to get the ball rolling for this surgery.
1/8/03-Had my initial consult yesterday. Dr. Afram and his staff were very friendly and informative. I have a good and warm feeling about Dr. Afram and his staff. They were willing to answer my questions and explain anything I requested.
