NYU Langone Long Island Surgical Associates Bariatric Center
i thought dr brathwaite was a nice and caring person and he took as much time with you to answer any or all question you had for him. i was in a different situation in the case of my dr for my surgery i worked with him at the hospital he was at (he was in a different dept from me)orginally i was not going to use him but it did not work out with the dr i was going to use and i used dr brathwaite and everything happends for a reason and i guess it was gods way of showing me that dr brathwaite is the one who will be helping me to change my life. his office staff is very nice and helpful i have had no problems with them. any and all questions i had for dr brathwaite or his staff is answerd or explained to me and his aftercare is good his staff is very caring and considerate...like i said i have never had problem with him and he is the nicest dr and that is important when going for wls what the drs bedside manner is and how his office staff is as well cuz you want a dr that is going to be helpful to you and the care you will have with him. dr brathwaite has done all that for me and i would reccomend him to anybody!
Met Dr. Collin Brathwaite on 5-5-05. He was kind, competent, and mild mannered. I was very pleased with his answers to my questions, and it didn't take long for me to become comfortable with him. His staff was equally encouraging and I feel like I am totally in good hands. I'm looking forward to a successful preparation period and successful surgery.
I first met (informally) Dr. Brathwaite at an educational meeting where he now does the majority of his bariatric surgeries (St. Catherines of Sienna in Smithtown, NY). He was very thorough in giving the positive and potential negative aspects of having surgery and everything thereafter. He has a very warm, friendly and welcoming demeanor. He was very compassionate and genuine in answering any and all questions and concerns. I immediately felt comfortable and decided right then and there he was going to be my surgeon. At my first office visit my impressions of the staff only solidified my initial feeling of comfort. Everyone is extremely knowledgeable, nice, efficient, and helpful. I have done alot of research before coming into my decision and have heard nothing but wonderful things about Dr. B and his staff. Everyone keeps you well informed every step of the way! There are support meetings every second Tuesday of every month and and educational meeting every third Thursday of every month. I highly recommend attending the support meetings. I was so nervous going into my first meeting. I was feeling insecure about being a "newcomer" and that nobody would talk to me. I was so wrong! Immediately you are greeted with smiles and and introductions. Everyone was so pleasant and very open to sharing their stories, fears, tips, and experiences. I felt like everyone was letting me into their lives as well as taking me into theirs. I felt very much a part of a huge family. It has been that way ever since! I can't say enough about Dr. Brathwaite, his staff and his patients! God bless them all!
Dr Brathwaite is great and caring I trusted him and his steady hands.
After surgery I was treated like a princess by the worlds best nursing staff at St.Catherines hospital (I.C.U.)
the surgery dosent take away the desire to eat the unhealthy foods it is a tool to limit the amount.
You still have to make the desicion to eat corectly.
All the best information I received was with my doctor and his staff.
Now that I know how this really is I would do it allover again in a heart beat and I just got out of the surgery!
i absoutly loved him.. up until recently i thought he was the best..his office staff was great !! i liked everything about him. recently he has changed hospitals.. he is now at st. catherine's. while he was at stoneybrook his care and follow up was great !! now he no longer takes my insurance and i am having some problems AND i have to find another doctor...he did a very good job of addressing the risks of the surgery..when he did my surgery i would of rated him on a score of 1 to 10 a 20 !! now i would rate him a minus 0... i feel bedside manner and surgical competence are equally important.
Our first impression was that he was thorough, sincere, and committed. Our feelings only became stronger as we got to know Dr. Brathwaite and his phenomenal staff. I reviewed several well known and recommended Drs. over a three year period and found many of their office people rude and gruff. Many of these Drs. were also pushy and seemed to have a date. Dr. B. and his staff aren't like this at all. They are supportive, informative, and sincere. Very much worth the wait as any of his patients will confirm. Pre-care and aftercare support are of utmost importance and all patients are handled on a one to one field. We have monthly support meetings that are not only well run and very informative but also unbelievably well organized considering the large number of attendees. This is first hand knowledge. I've been to other groups and you couldn't even hear yourself thinking. Barbara does an exceptional job! My surgery went so well that I was amazed how little pain I experienced. All I can say is this guy is GREAT and so his staff and affilliated hospital.
PS
This site still has Dr. Collin Brathwaite listed at Stony Brook Hospital. For the most part he is pretty much now at St. Catherine's of Sienna, Smithtown - Kings Park area where my surgery was performed. Great hospital too.
I attended my first educational meeting on 08/19/04. At first I was a bit nervous as well as excited. I had even felt a little uncomfortable walking into the room but that quickly went to feeling much better once I was in. The first meeting was very interesting as we learned about gastric bypass and the different types of treatment available. After watching the tape, we had a very lengthy question and answer discussion with Dr. Brathwaite.
My first impression of Dr. B is that he was genuinely concerned about all of us at the meeting. He is very soft spoke but confident in his manner. He wants the best for everyone that is there, patient or not. He took a great deal of time to answer all of our question and concerns. He really wants you to be well informed on what it is that you are looking to do with surgery and what you can expect from the surgery.
Dr. Braithwaite’s staff is as well helpful and easy to talk to. They see that you are comfortable at the meetings and that you are getting the correct information. They are concerned about you as a person and will do what it takes to get you through whatever obstacles you might face, be it thought and decision to even insurance concerns.
On my first official visit in Dr. Braithwaite’s office, we began watching a video which has more information about the procedure he does (Roux-en-Y pouch) and what people can expect from the surgery. I then was able to spend a good amount of time with Dr. B one on one talking to him about my past history and why I was at his office. I told him that his name just kept popping up in conversation with people I knew and also by my respiratory doc. We both had a laugh. He examined me and we spoke a bit more. Dr. B made my wife and me very comfortable and he took the time to answer all questions and concerns. He is extremely personable and easy to talk to.
What is also nice about Dr. Brathwaite and his staff is that they offer an extremely helpful, informative and FUN aftercare program. They have new patient meetings I think on the 3rd Thursdays of each month and patient support meetings on the 2nd Tuesdays of the month. Let me tell you that the support meetings are "packed" with people, laughs and excitement as well as the support that you need before or after surgery.
I most certainly rate Dr. Brathwaite a 10!
Dr Brathwaite is no longer at StonyBrook, NY. He is now linked to St. Catherines in Smithtown, NY.
His demeanor is warm and caring, when he talks to you he takes time to explain things throughly, to listen and answer your questions.
As time went on my respect for him as a person and doctor only increased
His staff is just as knowledgeable about the surgery as him and take take a lot of time with you to help you prepare mentally, physically and psychologially.
You are followed up very closely after surgery, not only by him but by the team which includes a nurse practioner and a nuritionist. They are more concerned about your nutrition and that you are eating properly to stay healthy. There is also a support group that meets monthly that one can start attending before surgery.
Dr Brathwaite laid it all out on the table with diagrams and pulled no punches you know what you possibably are getting into.
How would rate him I think he is great and so do most people I talk to who have him as a surgeon
Dr Brathwaite gets stars in all ares
Dr. Brathwaite is a very caring and informative doctor. He is insistent on performing any testing he feels necessary to ensure your well being both before and after surgery. His credentials speak for themselves and he has recently moved from Stonybrook Hospital to St. Catherine's where he has started a bariatric program with a phenominal team.
His office staff is wonderful and is willing to assist with any questions/concerns you have.
