NYU Langone Long Island Surgical Associates Bariatric Center
This is a surgeon that I thank God each and every day that I found. By a stroke of luck, I was having a pedicure, lamenting on the fact that I had a very unpleasant encounter with another surgeon who was rude and intimmodating. And next to me, was another customer who was waiting for a massage in the spa. She told me about her doctor, Collin Brathwaite and how happy she was with him. I called him the next day and set up an appointment. The rest is history. I had complete confidence in him. During my operation for gastric bypass, he removed a hernia and built-up scar tissue. I feel like a new woman. He is my hero. He is caring, sensitive to his patients and makes you feel secure in puting your life in his hands. God bless this man.
I had the pleasure to experience my first steps with the wonderfull staff at Dr. Brathwaite office. My sister had full gastric surgey two years ago, she always raved about her doctor. When I was ready to take the journey, I asked my sister for her doctors information. After meeting him, I choose Dr Brathwaite as my surgeon. He gave me 100% of his attention and shared his knowledge about the different types of surgery. I choose the Lap Band. After completing all the required follow up, I received approval from my insurance company and his staff scheduled my operation. rnI have already recommended Dr. Brathwaite to others and do to you too. In my opinion, he is a gifted surgeron with competence and has a wonderful bedside manner.
Dr. Brathwaite was wonderful. Very down to earth and informative. I felt very comfortable with him. I've only had 1 visit with him so far. His office staff are very friendly and eager to help. I can't think of any negative moments during my first visit. Judging by my first encounter with Dr. Brathwaite I would recommend him to others. He makes it very clear that aftercare is very important. Also that this is not a quick fix it is a lifetime change. He has a very structured program. He is very straight when telling you about the risks and benefits of having a bypass. I did have an opportunity to meet someone who already had surgery with him and they were very satisfied also. I feel that his surgical competence and bedside manner are both great.rn17 months post op and I still love Dr. Brathwaite!! He is an amazing person and surgeon. I recommend him to everyone I can.
My first impression with Dr. Brathwaite was that he and his staff are very dedicated to helping the morbidly obese. They are respectful an extremely helpful with questions and answering any questions or fears you may have about Laparoscopic bypass surgery. A wonderful group, the team that works with Dr. Brathwaite is like an extended family everyone works with you to choose what is best for you. I would recommend him to everyone. He has a wonderful bedside manner and a warm caring sense of humor. That puts you at ease. His staff is dedicated to helping you in every aspect of the surgical process. I look forward to working with him and his staff to achieve my ultimate goal.
Dr. Brathwaite and his staff are wonderful. They are very knowledgeable and they were more than accomodating in many respects. I originally started the process with another surgeon, but came to Dr. Brathwaite mid-process. rnThe support group meetings I have been to have been interesting, and the education classes I have attended so far have been very helpful in making some decisions so far. Going to the classes beforehand is so important to make sure you know this is a lifelong change. He is very consistant about the need to continue with followup care and group meetings after surgery. People do so much better if they continue with them.rnThe hospital staff was great too, and they only let certain people who have specially trained in bariatric services take care of you there. That was really nice. All the questions I had were answered by people specifically educated to answer my questions, and meet my needs. I felt so safe and confident in their care as well.
I had been to many surgeons before going to Dr. Brathwaite. I had been turned off by other surgeons who tried to convince me to go for the lap band instead of the bypass which is hwat I myself preferred to have. When I met Dr.Brathwaite, I felt \"important\" and sure about my decision to have him as my surgeon. He made me feel comfortable, and answered all my questions without feeling rushed to attend his next patient. I am glad that I listened to my mother's advice as to going to him. rnDr. Brathwaite's office staff are excellent. They always are friendly and keep you well informed of anything that is pending on your list of appt's.
Dr. Brathwaite is a soft-spoken, kind and highly qualified surgeon. His team includes his wife Barbara, Psychotherapist, and she was excellent. She addressed all my concerns and expectations regarding my upcoming surgery. I looked forward to my visits with her for my psych consults. I also used Michelle, Dietician, for my pre-op nutritional consultation. The Nurse Practioner, Judy , was professional and upfront about what to expect with the surgery. The office staff were friendly and always prompt when they needed to fax or call someone on my behalf. This is a busy practice with the Dr. in surgery much of the time. Some appointments are made with the Nurse Practioner or Asst. Surgeon instead of the Dr. himself. His office offers both educational and support groups during day and evening hours. rn I have had no regrets on choosing Dr. Brathwaite for this life altering experience.
