Obesity & Me

Describe your behavioral and emotional battle with weight control before learning about bariatric surgery.

Ever since I can remember I have always been the fat one. I was always the biggest in my classes and with my cousins and always uncomfortable with it. As I got into my mid teens I became more comfortable with my weight and the womanly curves that I had. In my early twenties I was in the 190-200 range and very comfortable and confident in myself. Then I got married and had two kids. I am now at the highest weight that I have ever been 321 and ready to have WLS. I have tried different diets in the past with limited success. Each time I try to diet it seems that the results are less and less with the progression of time.

What was (is) the worst thing about being overweight?

The worst thing about being overweight is not living life as fully as I would like to. I recently turned 35 and would have liked to have gone to Vegas or San Diego but I was terrified that I would not fit into the seats on the airplane. Another sour note about being morbidly obese is not being able to interact with my kids the way I would like. A couple of weeks ago my 5 year old was preening in the mirror, turned around and said "Mommy you're really fat". That hurt my heart.

If you have had weight loss surgery already, what things do you most enjoy doing now that you weren't able to do before?

Hope to have surgery in May 2012
