Question:
Can you eat dill pickles after Surgery?
I'm 3 months post-op, and I love dill pickles. I buy the gigantic size jar at Wallmart. The pickles are really big. I only eat one or two every other day. Are they ok to eat, or should I avoid them? — Snowflake_Princess (posted on May 30, 2003)

Pickles work fine for me. You just have to make sure to chew them well,
but I found that's true of anything I eat. The only thing I can think of
that would prevent you is the higher sodium content of pickles. If that
doesn't cause you concern, I would say go ahead and give it a try. Maybe
buy a smaller jar first before you go for the industrial tub of Walickles.

I eat dill pickles with no problem. My only concern is watching the carb
content. I keep my carbs under 50 for the day.Good luck.

Trisha,
Oh man for the first 3 months post op, I was sucking on pickles, I was
actaully afraid to eat them, (The skin) so I would buy the big dill pickles
and eat the insides of them, I downed allot of them, It seems during
different phases of WLS, You'll find yourself craving some weird things,
mine were pickles the first couple of months, cheese and peanuts the next,
pop corn (Burnt for some reason) I liked it that way, and now I'm on a
fruit feast, I love straw-berries, grapes and water mellon, seems now I
can't get enough of them.,
What's weird is I didn't like any of them before surgery.
Pickles, are fine..
Hugs !

I wasn't allowed to eat them until 8 weeks out, and by then I really craved
pickles! I had no problem with them after that. I found it really weird
that a single pickle could fill me up and keep me full for more than 3
hours!

MMMMMMMMM.... pickles. I havent craved them yet till you mentioned them! I
think the poster below is right on by saying they upped their water content
for the day cuz pickles are in fact "pickled". They have a large
sodium content so they will contribute to dehydration if youre not drinking
enuff.
As for carbs......... dont sweat it with pickles. They have minimal as
theyre nothing other than cucumbers anyway.

Yum! Pickles have been one of my recurring post-op cravings! I've
tolerated them fine since fairly early on. Calorie-wise they're great, but
as other posters have pointed out, the sodium content (yikes!) keeps me to
only a few. I've never had any problems with them.
