Question:
I was wondering how much protein the body can absorb at one meal?
I've been drinking shakes and have been adding extra protein in it, because I really can't eat much. I am 3 months out, and was wondering if the body can only absorb so much...I keep getting mixed feedback. — Kelly W. (posted on November 20, 2002)

30 grams is all your body can absorb at a time. The rest is dumped into
your kidney, which you DON'T want to happen. Try drinking more protein
drinks during the day at least 2-3 hours apart to give your body time to
absorb the 30 grams.

hiya! i've heard what the previous poster said - 30g tops is all we can
absorb in one "sitting" and from my understanding a
"sitting" is 2 hours. anything over the 30g is wasted.
good luck!

unfortunately more isn't always better. I'm amazed at the people who are
taking in 90+ grams of protein a day. I know I'll get griped at for that
:>) But from what I've read (and I can't quote - sorry) that too much
protein goes to your liver and can cause major health issues. Also, that
eventually your body will start treating your body the same way it does
carbs now - turning it to fat - when you over-consume it. We really do
need a good combo of proteins (first and foremost - and I have been told by
my doc 40 - 50 grams a day), green veggies (including cauliflower - as much
as you need to be full), fats and then finally, starchy carbs (in extreme
moderation).
