Question:
I am 3 weeks post-op and still on a full liquid diet.
I find that I don't seem to get a full feeling after eating 2 oz. of soup. I get this feeling when I drink water but am really concerned that I may strech out my pouch or that I'm not getting enough nutrition. Any help would be appreciated. — [Anonymous] (posted on January 29, 2002)

At about 3 weeks post-op fluids/soups stopped filling me up too, go for
your more solid things , yogurt, pudding/jello, malt-o-meal.. all of which
are on the full liquid diet. I was told at 3 weeks post op you can hardly
count on getting the nutrition you need and that it will come more as you
get into your solid foods... If you're really concerned about it though of
course you should be able to call dietary from the hospital you had surgery
at or a nutritionist.

I was on Clear liquids 4 weeks then Full liquids for 2. The previous poster
is correct yogurt , pudding , cream soups thinned farina or cream of wheat,
Try small amounts to see if they agree. If you are worried about nutrition
a protein drink , make half portions or quarter portions and have that a
few times a day. I don't believe that you will suffer malnutrition , I
don't know where you fit in the BMI but I know I could live off my body fat
for a long time! I was built to survive LOL. Also take those vitamins.

I, too, was very concerned about stretching my pouch even
drinking liquids. I called my dr's. office several times
to just make surrre. Liquids just go through you, they
don't stop to fill up the pouch. Have you tried liquid
protein powders or drinks? Be sure they are COLD before you
drink them, otherwise they can taste nasty. Good luck!

My surgeon had me on a liquid diet for 6 weeks, first 3 liquid, 2nd 3 weeks
were liquid/pureed. He wanted that 6 weeks for the stomach to heal. I can
tell you I never got full even on pureed food, I guess it's actually the
best time for weight loss :o) Don't worry about nutrition, before you know
it you will be eating regular food. Good luck on the next few weeks, you
are doing great!!!!!
