I had hybernation syndrome. I happens a few weeks after surgery when you
think you should be getting some of your energy back, finally, but all you
want to do is sleep the days away. It finally went away. Now I
practically bounce through my days.

Sleeping , living off your body fat , actually the body dosn't want to give
up the weight so you concerve energy just like a bear going into
hibernation. If you contact Ava Lee she has some good information she can
send you on this. What the pre op is going through is not hibernation I
went through the same thing in my MO days it was called depression. My
surgery helped that too.

What I have heard in hibernation syndrome is it dates back to early
ancestors. There is hibernation syndrome and hunting syndrome. Metabolism
is speeded up during hunting syndrome so you have energy, thus that is why
they say exercise, excerise, excerise. Hibernation came during the cold
months, when they did not have to hunt, so their metabolism slowed down.
Therefore, if you excercise regulary, your body should stay in the hunting
mode and you should lose weight better. If you are not active, you will go
into hibernation mode and your metabolism will slow down and so will you
weight loss.
