Question:
Are negitive comments about the doctors allowed? Odd that they're all positive.

Ahh I am the board MOD, and care for Q&A. Negative comments are
allowed, as factual reports. If your talking about surgeons profiles
negatives DEFINETELY do appear. I once printed a surgeons profile, pulled
out the negatives and handed him the reports of his mess. Basically awesome
surgeon with crummy staff. The surgeon thanked me, and cleaned up his act.
Several of his staff got fired instantly if they treated patients badly
again.<P> Be assured negative comments are allowed. Most surgeons do
a good job.... no one wants bad comments here. surgeons are a business....
the surgeon above agreed on that too.

I don't see anything wrong with it as long as comments are truthfull. I
think it really helps others who are looking for a surgeon.

I've written a negative surgeon comment. He moved and no longer practices
so I found a different surgeon. Because you can not have comments on your
profile for two surgeons I was forced to delete the old one. But because
he isn't an option as a surgeon anymore, there was no need for the comment
to be here anyhow. So yes...negative comments are allowed, and if honest,
greatly appreciated by the community.

Negative comments about a surgeon are not uniformly appreciated by this
community, or, I suspect, any other weight-loss surgery support group. No
doubt that's because of the life-changing potential of the operation. He
isn't just a surgeon, he's a savior, an alchemist, the genie of the
lamp--the one who can (in the pre-op's fond dreams) transform her from the
ugly duckling into the swan. So if you give a surgeon a negative review,
you may generate a barrage of slams from his devotees. Doesn't matter that
they weren't there, don't know what happened, don't know anyone who
did--this wonderful life-saver couldn't POSSIBLY have done X, Y, or Z. All
of which makes it imperative that if you have a bad experience to share,
you share it. Lives are being risked here; we need to know the truth.

I thank you for having the courage to ask that question and more than that
to follow through with actually doing it. Yes, there are great doctors
that have saved many lives; however, I am in the beginning stages of a
reversal because a doctor did a very bad job on me. I find out later that
he had three wrongful death suits and 15 malpractice suits against him. I
only wish someone had been honest and posted the things I am now hearing in
abundance about this doctor. The hospital has since "released him of
duty". Mind you, this is the same doctor that threw me out of his
office last August with the comment "there is nothing wrong with
you". Well, they don't do reversals unless something is terribly
wrong. So, I say all that to say this "thank you for asking your
question". Your comments, if honest, could save somebody's life in
the long run.

I know of people that have stated factual things about an experience with a
doctor in our area, he has had many complications and deaths but because he
is a paid sponsor of OH, they generally are pulled (most have been one the
message boards not the Q&A). Not to mention that he sends all of his
success stories here and if one of the ones that have had complications
speaks out they are blasted by them.
I am not saying that all negatives get pulled but a lot do. I have a
friend that had horrible complications with this surgeon, and felt
abandoned by him, and since then we have seen several more have
complications, and even several deaths that did not have to happen, most
are attributed to horrible post-op care.
I thank god for my friend having the courage to tell her story, because if
not I probably would not have found the wonderful surgeon that did my
surgery. My friend has told her story over and over again in hopes of
saving one life.
This is a risky surgery and you need all the facts, just because a surgeon
has a banner on a website does not make him the best. My surgeon does not
believe in advertising, for a medically necessary procedure, so you will
not find his name all over OH, but he is one of the VERY best in our area,
not only at doing the surgery but taking care of us post-op and most of all
he is great in a crisis, most surgeons are good at this surgery, but I
wanted someone that could take care of me in a crisis, and thank god I
found him.

I have a neg comment about a surgeon in my profile but because he isn't the
surgeon I went with it doesn't show up on his comment section. Make sure
you do a full and complete search of surgeons in your area. Don't forget
to check the surgeons record with the State Board.

AMOS MOD NOTE: I can honestly say that in the 4 or 5 years I have cared for
Q&A I have NEVER removed a negative comment about a doc by anyone..
Even when there were more mods, that wasnt occuring.

Surgeons can request to remove any comments about them, from obesity help.
It stated in the book "WLS for Dummies", since surgeons support
OH w/ $.

Thanks so much for responding to my question. This web site is awsome! I
asked the question because I'm consiering sugery in Mexico. When I tell
people that, they think I'm crazy. It seems to me doc's in Mexico have more
experience and it's cheaper for me because I'm self pay. Thanks again!
