Question:
6 months post op and still having trouble eating

I am six months post op and am still very limited on what I can eat without getting extremely nauseous for 45 minutes or more....I usually don't vomit, just dry heaves and and nauseous. Will I ever be able to eat more things? Like breads, pastas, etc?    — Lynniekinz (posted on September 27, 2004)

I was wondering what your eating now to make you nauseous? I know it wasn't until I was at least a year out before I even tried bread. And then it made my tummy feel funny. But now 2 years out, I can eat everything. I wish I never had started on some things but oh well. Im at goal and have been there for some time. Geri

breads, pasta, rice and meats are often the most difficult to get used to. It can take alot of time and some post-ops never do. I have to limit the amount of rice and pasta I have to very small amounts or I will feel ill and I am 2 1/2 years post-op. All I can tell you is that the further out you get, the more types of things you should be able to eat. If certain things make you sick now, put it aside for a while and try it again in a few months. I'm sure you have tried eating very small amounts, chewing very well and very slowly, drenching any meats in sauces/liquids to keep it from drying out?

Hello....take it one day at a time....eventually you will be able to eat small amounts and it will gradually increase....it was a year before I could eat pasta, chicken, almost anything to be honest and slowly but surely my menu increased.....now 3 years post op I can eat anything and everything and to be honest have gained 10 pounds so.....take it slow and dont miss it too much!!!
