Question:
I take my BCPs faithfully, could I still be pregnant?

I take my birth control pills everyday faithfully, have not skipped a pill. The last pack was changed from Ortho Novum 777 to Ortho tricycline. Now my period is late (I always start the Tuesday after the last active pill on Saturday). Well, no show. I've noticed pimples (yet they say ortho tricycline is supposed to stop pimples) and sore breasts. I'm also retaining fluid. Has any one here gotten pregnant taking oral contraceptives? Terri..I don't know about BC pills and WLS. I am a nurse and used to work labor & delivery. I saw a lot of babies that were conceived while mom was on the pill. Are you taking any different meds? Any antibiotics? Some meds will decrease the effectiveness of BC pills. Your symptoms are suggestive but don't panic till you get a test done. Could just be a hormone adjustment from weight loss and change of BC pill. Good luck.

I'd say you definitely want to check! I'm a little surprised you weren't warned like most of us, that we may malabsorb the BC pill after surgery, and therefore not get the proper dose into our bodies. If you ARE pregnant, that would probably be a big factor. And if you aren't, I would still suggest bringing this up with your ob/gyn and discussing alternate methods of birth control. Lots of people on here use the nuva ring or depo shots for their protection. Same hormones as the pill, just delivered to the body in a different manner, without involving our malabsorbing digestive systems. Anyway, good luck! :)
