Question:
Needing help finding proteins besides peanut butter, nuts, chewy bars and drinks.

I have tried real meals, unjury, and the protein bars. Nothing "tastes" good. I eat peas, have dried powder milk in hot cerals. I am 4mths post op and have 70 lbs. now. Losing about 10 lbs. a month/also exercising and trying to get the water in. But need more protein ideas.    — Maryjean (posted on December 12, 2003)

Do you eat cottage cheese, pork, chicken, beef, seafood? I have cottage cheese with diced onion, cucumber, bell pepper, salt and pepper for lunch five days a week (work days). I love it and it's and easy high protein lunch for work - 1/2 cup had 13 g of protein and at two years out, I eat a cup so I get a whopping 26g of protein at lunch. String cheese is good. I particularly like hot pepper cheese. Have you tried any of the soy "meat" products if you can't tolerate real meat. Wendy's Chili is wonderful -especially this time of year. Those are just a few ideas - read food labels. Tuna and salmon both are full of protien.

Tuna is a great source of protein and remember Skim milk and 8 oz. cup has a lot of protein. You can supliment this by adding SF Carnation packets which I believe are 6g of protein per packet. You can also mix the carnation vanilla flavor in with some yogurt for a boost of protein. Keep up the Great WL.

In addition to the suggestions below, what about eggs? Scrambled eggs with melted cheese and a dollop of veggie chili on top has been my breakfast every day. If you can't eat meat or seafoods, try soy products. And you can always do a search online under "protein" for more ideas...

Seafood is a great source of protein. I love those little shrimp cocktails. Crab is a great source of protein as well. How about tuna fish? I use beef jerky as well.

I loved (and still love) canned corned beef - not the fresh stuff. The canned is already chopped into tiny tender morsels - steamed with a bit of finely shredded cabbage. I also love tiny pieces of steak or shrimp stir-fried with olive oil and garlic, dump some frozen broccoli in it and steam until the veggies are soft. Top with jarred Alfredo sauce. Jerky, string cheese and Wendy's chili were mainstays for me early out.

You can also try beef jerky. I like "steak bites", which can usually be found with the beef jerky.

Cheese, cottage cheese, yogurt, black beans smashed then fresh salsa and a smidge of low fat sour cream eat with tortilla chips (great dip and filling), eggs, tuna fish, egg salad, canned chicken, canned ham made into ham salad with low fat mayo, cooked meats like chicken, beef, ham, pork, fish. There is a bevy of foods out there that have protein in them that you can get a variety of meals from.

Go to Susan Maria's website called www.bariatriceating.com as she has SEVERAL items you can order samples of... I too had trouble finding palatable, good-tasting protein drinks, but her ProPlete Gold name brands are DELICIOUS and not at ALL like drinking something that's "good" for you!! Best wishes & God bless!! Amy
