Question:
Am I eating too much?

I'm at 12 weeks post-op now and for the past 2 dyas I have managed to eat an entire crunchy taco from the "BELL" for lunch, about 1/2 a pimento cheese sandwich for breakfast both days and beef jerky every now and then throughout the day. I've lost 61 pounds thus far and am terrified my appetite is trying to sneak back up on me. Is this normal?    — chippywah (posted on July 22, 2003)

Not TOO much, just not great choices. Lots of carbs, too little protein. And is that ALL you eat in a day? A taco, a 1/2 sandwich and some jerky? Definitely not ENOUGH!

I agree that you aren't eating too much but you do need to cut back on the carbs. And, there is better cheese than pimento and cheese - frankly, it makes me sick. My surgeon suggested that instead of bread, we eat crackers because you can get much more protein that way - a little cracker and a LOT of protein. I get refried beans or pintos and cheese from Taco Bell - don't get the taco shell and you get lots of protein. I do eat at Taco Bell though. I also eat chili from Wendy's.

This question is like deja vu! At 3 months post-op (18 months ago!)I asked a question almost identical. I ate an entire taco from Taco Bell and was afraid that I was able to eat too much. To my surprise, the answers were encouraging. People said that the shell crunches down to almost nothing and the meat and cheese were good protein. Their advice was not to make that kind of choice everyday, but occasionally it was fine. Don't worry, you are doing great!

I agree with Ruth not good choises. I was eating toco bell and all but thinking it was lower fat stuff. than got on caloireking and looked up fast food. at that point I realized none of that stuff was that low in fat. maybe a few things but I was fooled. and so I told myself that I'd stop fast food. only as a desprite thing rarly will I eat it now. it was just so high in calories. I make my own lunch and pack in in a 6pk lunch box with blue ice it dosen't take that long to make it.

I looked up the nutrition info on a taco from the Bell...180 cals, 9gr. protein, 12 carbs and 10g. fat. Not bad if only occasionally:~)
