Question:
Any ideas for a good lunch-on-the-go at work?

6 weeks post op having difficulty finding something easy for a quick lunch at work. Any ideas would be appreciated    — Mark (posted on June 9, 2003)

No refrigeration needed - Tuna snack packs, Jerky, peanut butter on crackers (easy on the crackers, heavy on the pb), almonds or any nut really. With refrigeration - no-sugar-added yogurt, any wafer meat, salads with diced ham, steak or chicken (depending on your stage of diet), protein shake or bar, cottage cheese with or without fruit, low-sugar fruit (cantaloupe, berries, etc.), tuna-stuffed tomatoes, moz cheese sticks, cheese in general.

Hi Mark - not sure if you're cleared for this yet, but lots of us find "Lunchables" a good selection for one of our meals. If you're not completely against the processed food stuff, these have a good balance of calories/fat/carbs and offer 20 grams of protein. At 8 weeks out I can eat about half. Good Luck!

I was eating deli meat sandwiches at your stage, actually a 1/2 a sandwich, with the top slice of bread removed until about 3 months post-op when I could eat the entire 1/2. Even if you have to do fast food places, most of them have grilled chicken (can you eat that yet?) and you can remove the bun and just have the chicken or they now have salads at most of those places-just ease up on the dressing. Taco Bell has refried beans with cheese, or burittos..If you can bring a cooler to work even better-put in cheese for cheese and crackers, yogurts, tuna salad over crackers or in a salad.
