Question:
What affect, if any does B-12 injections have on our metabolism?
Do B-12 injections have any affect on our metabolism? I know it has something to do with being a help for those who may be deficient and fatigued, but I was wondering if it was true that it "speeds up" the metabolism. Thanks in advance for your reply. — yourdivaness (posted on April 14, 2003)

Hi,
I don't really know if it helps our metabolism or not but I know I
couldn't make it without mine. My bloodwork is great but if I don't get one
every couple of months, my energy just totally goes away. I could sleep all
the time. Its amzing to me that a simple shot could make that big of a
difference..

Vitamin B12, or Cobalamin is involved in the metabolism of folate (folic
acid), maintaining the myelin sheath on nerve cells, and forming healthy
red blood cells. (This came straight from my RN nutrition book). As for
speeding up metabolism in the sense you are speaking of, I would say that
it does not have a DIRECT effect. You do have to consider this
though...without all of the above functions of B12, you would have no
energy at all to exercise. Exercise itself increases metabolism. I will
tell you this, a B12 shot makes you feel GOOD! I hope this helps.
