Question:
Why is it so hard for some to get approved with cigna and so easy for some

I read on the site that some people have Cigna PPO and some seem to get approved with no problem and some dont get approved and have to appeal... what is the deal???    — SHERRY M. (posted on November 3, 2002)

As with any insurance it depends on what your employer has purchased in their/your plan. Same with life insurance. Some people get double indemnity for accidental death and some don't. Some buy coverage for obesity treatment and some don't.

I was one of the "lucky ones" with a great CIGNA PPO experience, both for my lap RNY and plastic surgery. However, my case manager explained that even though CIGNA is a national provider, coverage varies from employer to employer, and state to state. Read your policy carefully, find out what the appeals process involves, and don't be afraid to fight for what you want. Many people have discovered that insurance providers sometimes just seem to want to see how badly you want it, and achieve approval after several appeals. Good luck!
