Question:
Everything I eat seems to make me feel yucky, what could this be?
I am 7 weeks post-op open RNY and down 45.5 lbs. I've been on regular foods for 2 weeks (this is my 2nd week). Now it seems like everything I eat makes me feel gross. Sometimes I will dry heave but can't throw anything up and sometimes I can't even do that and I just feel yucky. What is this? Should I be concerned? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. — Rebekah A. (posted on November 13, 2002)

I went thru the same thing about 3 weeks out and it lasted until about 6
weeks out. It should pass.

I am almost 8 weeks post-op and know how you feel. I have learned to take
it really slow for one thing. Also, it all depends on what you are eating.
One day I can eat something with no problem and the next it makes me sick-
prepared the same way, same amount. Our bodies are going through so much
right now. Just give it time and before you know it, we'll be forgetting
you even had surgery!.....Karen (lap rny- 9/20/02- down 64lbs.)

No food made me feel well after consuming it for the first 3 mths. I
vomited all the time too. Nauseous constantly. Even if I bent over too
quick, moved too fast, or stressed over something, I felt sick. Now at 3
mths out, I'm fine and feel great. Good Luck.

I am preop but this topic came up a few days ago at a support group I
attended. The group is led by a nutritionist. He said that many people stop
getting enough fluid after they start on solid food following the surgery,
become dehydrated, and then start describing the same symptoms you
mentioned. Are you getting enough WATER? Good luck to you; I hope you start
feeling better soon.
