Question:
What can I drink?

This may be a silly question but I have to ask. I'll be 4 weeks post-op tomorrow and want something to drink other than water. I don't like crystal lite because it leaves a nasty taste in my mouth, I don't drink coffee or tea, and can only take so much juice...hmm have I just ruled out everything but water?? Please help and feel free to email me directly. Thanks in advance.    — Rebekah A. (posted on October 20, 2002)

I personally love Diet Snapple which puts out several sugar-free flavors (Cranberry, Raspberry-Cranberry, Peach Tea, Lemon Tea, and Ruby Red). It comes in 16 oz. glass bottles and I've found it at Walmart, where you can buy individual bottles ($0.58 each) or by the 12-pack ($6.99). There are ZERO calories, fats, proteins and ONE carb. My favorite "trick" is to put a bottle of the Snapple in a large carry-along sports bottle and fill it up with ice. By the time the ice melts and you've emptied the bottle, you've consumed a good 30-40 ounces of fluid!! Now, for a cold, rainy dreary day, or for a pre-bedtime snack, you can't beat a cup of sugar-free hot chocolate ! ENJOY.....Marilyn

You could also try Kool-Aid made with Splenda. Tons of different flavors there. SF Tang is good if you can handle Nutrasweet. You could also try squeezing different fruits in to your water, ie, lemon, orange, lime. That can make a difference taste wise.

You might try some Celestial Seasons herbal teas. Red Zinger is really good and has a natural sweetness without adding anything to it. Also there is a lemon flavor that is quite good without being acidic like lemon water can be. I really like Red Zinger both hot and cold. Give it a try.

Before my surgery I was drinking Hansens Peach Green Tea. It comes in Regular and Diet. I get the diet, it's sweetened with Splenda and tastes great. It's green tea so it's good for you and it has Ginko Biloba, Ginseng, and something else that I can't remember right now. I get it at Trader Joe's. Only place I've found it. But it is Delish!! Try it, I hope you like it. It's pretty mild. Good Luck on your search.

a favorite of mine is to take diet soda pop and freeze it in cubes, then crush it in the blender. It's like a slurpee - recommend Diet Root Beer and Diet Dr. Pepper. Wonderful! Kraft Sugar-free Country Time Pink Lemonade is wonderful too - a serving is 5 calories and 1.7 carbs. Kool-aid sugar-free strawberry tea is very good.

I drink diet Snapple, but be aware that their 'iced teas' contain about as much caffeine per 16 oz. as a Coke, so you have to drink some extra water with 'em.

On the Crystal Lite.....I found that post op, I can only use a little to "flavor" my water, as it is nasty tasting to me otherwise. I mix about 1 part Crystal Lite to 5 parts water. Gives it flavor, but doesn't taste icky. Also, they make a BUNCH of sugar free snow cone flavors (I know you can get them at vitalady.com) like watermelon, cherry, etc etc. that you can flavor your water with. Takes just a small bit and you can mix and match. Hope this helps. Renee D

Have you tried Rooibos tea? It is an African red bush tea that has all the benefits of Green tea WITHOUT CAFFEINE! It tastes really yummy with a sort of vanilla flavor to it. I drink it iced or hot with splenda or plain. It doesn't have the bitter taste that some teas have. You can get it at a variety of places, but the Republic of Tea puts out a few good Rooibos teas. My favorite is Safari Sunset, which has a bit of lemon added to it. Yum. :)

"Amen" to Dayna Blailock's response. Celestial Seasonings must have twenty or more flavors. Some of them are packaged in a sampler box with six types. You should be able to find one to your taste and you can sweeten it any way you wish and have it hot or cold. Hang in there.

Boy, do I remember those days. It took me about 2 years before I could drink Crystal Lite again after surgery. It was just too sweet, no matter how much water I added, and I never liked Koolaid. The only thing I could tolerate was SF Tang. If you can't find it in the stores, you can get it at Netgrocer.com. Good luck.

I've had the same problem. I am about 9 weeks out or so and so tired of the same thing...water. I've found Propel fitness water. It's made by Gatorade..has 2g of sugar, potassium, and some vitamins in it. It comes in Black Cherry, Orange, Berry...and probably some more that I haven't tried yet. I got mine at Walmart. I like the orange for now. It's just flavored enough that it's not sickening like Crystal Lite and it doesn't leave an aftertaste. I am still always looking for a new drink though.

You could try some other cugar-free drinks like sugar-free Kool-Aid. That's one of my favorite. Or you could try sugar-free Tang or any other sugar-free drink mix from the store. I on't like Crystal Light and I find it hard to get my water in. This has been what I have been doing! Hope this helps!

Try Fruit2O. I don't like it but a lot of people do. I like some flavors of Crystal Light, pink lemonade, strawberry orange banana, ruby red but I also really like Country Time Lem'nBerry Sippers - it's strawberry lemonade and I think it is wonderful.

how bout sugar free Tang? Fruit2o is alright. I like the crystal light Raspberry Ice, Raspberry tea. Some people like Propel (I didn't)...1% or less milk--but limited amounts.... I like iced tea which you can make decaf--I dont seem to have a caffeine issue. Hope this helps!

I drink 1/2 water and 1/2 Minute Maid Diet Lemonade (comes in 20 oz. bottles). I just don't like it that strong so I dilute it. I also dilute 1/2 water and 1/2 gatorade, which I like the fruit punch and the orange. I also drink herbal tea and decaf coffee(occaisionally only). Water doesn't go down as well for me. Oh yes, I drink tomato juice and v-8 juice.......very good!

I am a fan of "Propel". It's a "vitamin" water by the makers of Gatorade. I usually HATE flavored waters, but I find that this is not sweet, nor does it leave me w/ a bad taste in my mouth. For 8 oz. serving there are 2gm of carbs. It comes in Lemon, Berry and Black Cherry. It might be something you can at least try.

I could NEVER handle the Crystal Light or Sugar-Free KoolAid either - much too sweet! What I have found that I absolutely love is Minute Maid Light Lemonade. I buy it in 12 pack cans at the grocery store. I will tell you that I have tried it in the 20 oz. bottle and the 2-liter bottles and they do not taste quite as good as the 12 oz. can put in the freezer until it gets REALLY cold...mmm! My sister-n-law has to dilute hers with about 1/2 water, but I handle it just fine straight out of the can!!! :)

Rebekah...I am not sure if you have Meijer stores in your area but if you do please go and try one of their NaturIce slushes. They are incredible and addicting. The cool part is they have ZERO calories, ZERO sugars and only a few carbs for a large cup. In our store here you can find them in the bakery section. I sure hope you can find them they are so cold and refreshing. They sell flavors such as strawberry, blueberry, pineapple(my favorite), lemon, peach, and many more flavors. Maybe you could do a search on the net for a NaturIce dealer. They leave absolutely no aftertaste in you mouth too....that was one of my problems I had with many of the different drinks mentioned on this site. I tried many of them and never found one that didn't leave that taste in my mouth, until now.
