Question:
What's the best blender for a brand new post op (RNY)?
My surgery is May 22, and I want to be prepared to hit the ground running! I don't have a blender right now, so would love your experience! — laura T. (posted on May 10, 2001)

I personally like the hand-held Braun or Toastmaster blenders, although
they don't do ice. (they're great for protein drinks) I also like the
Pampered Chef or Zylus Food chopper which works great. Also, the Pampered
Chef Ice Shaver was real handy! Best wishes to you! (No, I'm NOT a
Pampered Chef Consultant!)

I burn up a LOT of blenders (the ones I don't drown--don't ask). I've had
Braun (heavy) and a Bamix (doesn't work hard enough) and my favorite is
still the cheapo at Walmart, 9.96. With the money you save, buy 2 while
you're there. It's light, I like the configuartion of the blade area
best--gets up close to the sides. I started using one before surgery, so
about 1992. I have become picky. I have some Braun's on the shelf for
back up, but they are overkill for my use. Too heavy to use 6-8 times per
day. I have NEVER used my real blender for protein drinks, not once in
nearly 7 yrs. Like I got all day to clean that thing 6 times? WAYYYY too
lazy here!

My hand held Braun does ice. I use a big big cup.. put in my water,
protein powder, whatever goodies (fruit, etc.) then give it a few whirls
with the hand blender. Then I pull out the blender and throw in 5 or 6 ice
cubes. Back in with the Braun and watch those ice cubes crush!!! One
trick is that you HAVE to use a cup MUCH bigger than your drink will be;
otherwise, you'll be wiping protein from the ceiling!!! (Been there, done
that!)

I have the Cussinart Duet, it is a blender and food prossesor in one and it
works great...I have had it for about 6 months and never had a problem. I
does the ice really well, I have never gotten a chunk. I is also good to
use the proccesor for the harder things to blend.

I ordered one of those "Thunder Sticks" from the infomercial. I
had seen it for years and thought this would be a good excuse to buy it. My
doctor requires 8 weeks pureed post-op. The Thunder Stick will puree
ANYTHING (probably even a tree limb) to the consistency of paste. I highly
recommend it.

I have a GREAT KitchenAid! I love it! I have to have a glass pitcher and
this one blends perfectly! I did not have to puree foods (lucky me!) but I
make protein fruit shakes every day and I love it!
