Question:
I think I can eat too much.

I have found that some times I can't even come close to eating 4 oz. but others like today. I was eating brocoli and cheese sauce. It was a small container, but held approximately 1.6 cups in it. I was talking to a co-worker as I ate, and noticed I had eaten almost all of it. For weeks my husband didn't think I eat enough... now what is happening??? HELP PLEASE (i see my surgeon for a 3 mos. post op on Nov 30)    — chelle_0608 (posted on November 4, 2004)

I'm worried about the same thing. I'm 7 weeks out and I can eat almost a whole lean cuisine meal sometimes. Tonight however I ate hardly any of it. I have my 6-8 week check up on Monday and I plan to ask about this. It just seems odd to me that I am able to eat more than 1/2 cup of food at this point. I hope you get more responses because I am curious if others experience this. I would just say to not worry too much since you were eating food that is healthy and fairly low in calorie. Good luck. Don't worry, you sound fine. The way to really judge if your pouch is working is to eat meat, like chicken. If you are full after 2-3oz then everything is fine. Softer foods (especially w/ sauce) will empty out faster, therefore making room for more food as you eat... Carmen

Don't worry. I agree with others. However, do you see why it is so important to pay attention to what, when and how you are eating. When do don't pay attention to our eating (talking, watching tv, etc) we eat without thinking. Remember to eat one fork full, put the fork down and chew the heck out of it. Wait a little bit then take the next fork full. Give yourself only 20 mins to eat. Anything over this time is grazing and you will eat more than you should. When I'm at home I set a timer. I eat at a table and not in front of the tv. We don't want our old habit to come back. Good luck to you.

I have yet to have the surgery, however my Aunt has had it about 2 years ago. She complained of the same problem, and I have to agree with the post before mine that says to sit your fork down between each bite. Her doctor told her she was eating too fast and to measure out her food instead of sitting down with a full plate of the amount she would have eaten before surgery. Unfortunately she did not follow his advice and is now gaining weight because she has streched her stomache right back out.

Broccoli and cheese SAUCE. Soft foods, such as SAUCE, will squeeze right on out of your pouch. You can eat more soft foods than you can of more substantial foods. Don't be afraid you are streatching your pouch, it takes months of eating far past your capacity to acheave even the smallest of streatching. <br>You need to judge your stomachs capacity by eating solid foods.
