Question:
I had LAP RNY on 9/21/01. I have lost over 70 lbs. so far. Start BMI was 43. Here
is what I ate today. Breakfast protein drink, snack 1 oz. cheese, Lunch 3/4 container of sf/ff yogurt, 4 crackers, and one american single slice of cheese, dinner 10 small shrimp, snack sugar free popcicle. Does this sound about right, or is it too much? Thanks!!! — Melissa B. (posted on February 6, 2002)

It doesn't sound like enough to me, but it may be. Your loss so far is
great! I did spot checks using www.fitday.com to make sure my calories
weren't too high or low and to make sure my protein grams were above 60.
Until 7 months I stayed around 800-1000 calories a day and reached goal. (I
also started at a BMI of 43.) Now I am at about 1500 calories a day and
struggling to lose that last 4 @#$%ing pounds to reach 100 pounds lost.
It's a fine line between eating too much and eating too little. Sounds like
you are eating the right things, tho. Good luck. It looks to me like you
are doing great!

Sounds like you are doing great! I haven't had surgery yet, (God willing,
5 weeks from today I will!!), but I have already been to my nutrition
class, and the nutritionist said there are a couple of mistakes many
gastric bypass patients do to jeopardize their weight loss and/or
maintenance: NO calorie-containing beverages (she really emphasized this),
and also NO GRAZING!! When it's time to eat, eat slowly for 20-30 minutes
or until full...after that, STOP! It may be very difficult to stick to
this, but after a while, you get used to it and so does your new little
pouch. In her experience (20 years) with gastric bypass patients, she says
sticking to those rules really maximizes the tool of surgery. Something to
think about!
