Question:
Where Do I Get The Restaurant Discount Card?
I keep hearing about a card I can find on this website that can be used in restaurants so that we can order "kids meals" instead of the regular adult meals we usually order. If anyone can give me some information about this I'd appreciate it. Thanks! — Amy D. (posted on June 8, 2003)

My nutritionist gave me one. It was basicly her business card with a
little message printed on the other side stating I had gastric bypass and
asked that the resturant allow me to order a smaller portioned reduced
price meal. When it comes to kids meals a lot of times they are fried
foods with a side of fries, but most places should let you substitute a
vegetable for the fries. I usaully just order a regualar meal and take
home the leftovers.

My doctor gave me one. My mother in law got hers from her doctor post-op.
As a side note, not all restaurants accept the card. The card simply asks
what you can ask on your own. It states that you had RNY surgery and can no
longer eat full size meals because your stomach is too small. I find it it
easier to simply explain the situation to the restaurant manager or server.
Card or no card it is up to the restaurant to decide, they don't have to
honor either one. I have not had anyone deny me yet and I eat out alot for
work. Best wishes -

while many restaurants don't honor the card (sadly) many will let you order
off the senior menu - which has many better choices than the kids menu.
