Question:
How soon can I have bite or two of ice cream?
I'm a week and a half post op, and I am on a pureed diet. I found a healthy choice Ice cream, no sugar added mint chocolate chip. It is also very low in fat. I have been wanting something more than a sugar free popsicle too. I have never been a huge Ice cream eater either, always just a dab since I have always been lactose intollerant. My second question is that I bought a sugar free creamsicle. Could I have that instead of a sugar free popscile? (Don't like them..) :) Thanks — [Anonymous] (posted on August 17, 2001)

I had a small serving of ice cream at about 3 weeks post-op. I love ice
cream, so I searched the freezer section at Meijer and found a brand of
Edy's that has only 13 grams of sugar. It is called Edy's Grand Light. I
have only tried the mint chocolate chip flavor, but it is good.

IM 10 DAYS POST OP AND IVE ALREADY HAVE EATEN ICE CREAM. ITS CALLED SUGAR
BUSTERS. THERE ARE MANY FLAVORS AVAILABLE AND THERE IS NO ADDED SUGAR ONLY
NATURAL SUGAR FOUND IN THE MILK PRODUCTS USED TO MAKE IT. ITS VERY GOOD AND
TASTES THE SAME TO ME IF NOT BETTER THAN REGULAR ICE CREAM. THERE ARE ALSO
MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS OF NO SUGER ADDED ICE CREAM ON THE MARKET YOU CAN
BUY. GOOD LUCK!

I bought Turkey Hill-No sugar added-Fat free-Dutch
Chocolate...WHOOO...super chocolate flavor. Taste like the melted end of a
chocolate sundae!!! Yummy. I had it about a 9 days post-op. No problems.

I think it will be to your tolerence of the ice cream, that was the FIRST
thing they allowed my friend post op outside of water and broth, and that
was day three post op.

I cannot eat ice cream from the store but can eat a cone from DQ without a
problem. I don't want more than a lick or two anyway. If I crave it,
whatever it is, I eat it but just in much smaller amounts. I find that my
craving is satisfied within a couple of bites of anything.

Just a thought. I am one year now and recently had some ice cream, the same
quantity as usual, maybe two tablespoons full and I dumped like crazy! Had
same ice cream two months ago with NO reaction. There is no explaing it.
But be careful with whatever you have and I would have it at your home and
not at the mall where I did and had to leave to go lay down.

I had no idea there are so many sugarless (or low sugar) Ice Creams.
Fantastic! I'm going to write the names down and look for them.
A few days ago I bought some sugarless/no fat ice cream from Schwans. They
have two flavors, Vanilla and Strawberry.
I've tried the strawberry and it's is'nt bad. Now "nothing" can
compair with regular ice cream, but it is pretty good.
I've tried some sugarless ice creams at various ice cream stands. I get the
kiddie cone (in a dish with no cone) and all but one has tasted like
sawdust with p### (urine).
But the Schwans was good. Anyway, thank you to you previous posters who
mentioned the various sugarfree brands.
To the person who posted the question, I don't see why you could'nt have
the creamsickle instead as long as it's sugarfree. ;) I know when I was
newly post op I loved anything that was COLD. The colder the better.

One of the first things I had when I came home from the hospital was sugar
free ice cream. It went down just fine and really helped me thru a
difficult time. Just try a little at first and see how it works for you. I
had dreyers sugar free. Good luck
