Question:
Any other picky eaters done this?

I'm currently pre-op (my first appointment is 8/21/01) and I'm concerned about the post-op diet because I'm such a picky eater! I dislike almost all vegetables (the only ones I like are green beans, carrots, potatoes, corn, and tomato sauces). I also don't like citrus fruits or melons. On the other hand, I *love* dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt. Am I going to be able to eat these later?    — Laurie Y. (posted on July 13, 2001)

Your likes and dislikes sound a lot like mine! Unless you become lactose intolerant (which some people do after surgery) there is no reason you shouldn't be able to continue to enjoy dairy products. They are high in protein and that is the mainstay of our diet. I eat almost NO vegetables or fruit. Last night for dinner I might have had one tablespoon of green beans. I focus on eating my protein first and then have whatever else my family is having as a side dish with their dinner, but never eat very much of it. I figure my pouch is so small I'm not going to waste precious space on nasty vegetables (that's my personal opinion!). My doctor tells me I need to include more fruits and vegetables in my diet, but when I look back at my pre-op diet I realize that it didn't include fruits and vegetables then either. I also make sure to take my vitamins to get the nutrients that I'm missing in my limited food intake.
