Question:
I have no appetite at all
I am 6 weeks post op and wonder if I will ever want to eat again. I just don't seem to want to eat anything. I have lost 41 lbs. which I am thrilled about but I am really struggling to eat. I take about 2 or 3 bites and nothing seems to taste good. I have no energy either which is probably why. I did buy from GNC some protein powder which is tolerable. I was having a problem with vitamins too but a friend gave me some multi vitamins that I can swallow that have minerals, etc. Has anyone else experienced this feeling. Will my desire for meats and veggies come back? I also seem to have a problem with leg strength - problem getting out of chairs, etc. Could this be related to the surgery? Help! — Carlene B. Carlene your appetite will return. I am 8 months post op and mine is back.
At times I feel like its back a little too much. I have been able to
control my eating, something I was never successful with pre op. Hang in
there, it gets better every day!

I agree with the top poster. Your in the "honeymoon period" the
first 6 months our tummys are kinda numb. But that will change so now take
advantage of this grace period and eat right... exercising will help and
you are granted 5X faster losing than any other time in your weight loss
history. GO FOR THE GOAL... when the tummy wakes up then you will slow
the eating down. Good luck and enjoy "grace"

Yes to all you ask, I remember those days well,Your taste buds will kick in
soon. I can remember when everything tasted nasty and made me gag. you will
enjoy food taste again. Right now take advantage of this time. cause it's
when most of your wt will come off. atlease mind did. later it will be
harder to do so. right now it may not seem like things are going right,
but they are, healing isn't a over night thing. It took me 3 months to feel
like me again. My recovery was slow. continue to get those proteins in.
this helps you to heal and to get strong. Water flushs out the fat and
toxins. do everything your suppose to and soon you will be up and running.
LOL hang in there hon. take care.******

For the first 4 months I regreted every minute of having the surgery done.
Now I'd do it again in a heart beat. I'll be 1 yr out April 2. Started at
262lbs now 149. For about the first 6 months I only ate if I got hungery,
now is a different story. I now enjoy food(taste)again. Id also say for the
first 2 weeks after surgery I prayed I'd die, I didnt want to eat or drink
anything after each sip of anything I'd get these horrible painful burps.
And my surgeon would just tell me to sip, well thats what I was doing. But
really in all honesty I didnt want to put anything in my mouth. My surgeon
threatened to put me back in the hospital if I didnt start drinking. So I
started lying to him. Just so I didnt have to hear the bull. but now all is
well. Everything will get better with time.

Carelene, I felt the same way. The mind is hungier than the stomach can
manage. I would pile food on my plate mentally thinking I could eat it.
BoY was I wrong LOL. Don't worry soon your mind and stomach will try to
work together. There are many types of protein drinks - I like Vanilla
Isopure with my own fresh fruit - there are many that have barely any taste
and mixed with a banana (good for postassium) are ingestible - but you have
to find the one right for you. You can buy them individually at gym so you
won't waste money buying a can.

No one is the same. Period. But.... :)

I felt the same way after surgery, and I am 23 months post op Lap RNY...
and still have a hard time with eating... food has little or no appeal. I
am still always searching for that magical food that will be the one thing
that will make me really enjoy eating. So I cook and bake a lot, trying to
find that "one" thing.

I still haven't gotten any hunger pangs... it is more to the point where I
have learned to convince myself that I need to eat to power my new body.
That took a lot of therapy. Some people give me a lot of crap for that, but
it can be as painful as wanting to eat all the time, whether they believe
it or not. Especially when we know that not eating makes us stop losing
(starvation mode) as much as over-eating.

If it goes a long time, like months, and you still don't get some hunger
back, and you aren't able to get yourself to eat enough calories and
protein every day, consult your dietician and consider some counselling. It
can work wonders.

I wish you all the best.
