Question:
Should I go back to liquids for a while?
I haven't lost a thing in nearly 2 weeks. I am almost 1 month post-op. I've been gaining weight too. Should I stop eating foods and go back to all liquids to get the weight loss going again? — Renee B. (posted on December 7, 2003)

I remember asking the same question you just did. Everything is going to
be allright. Follow your ORIGINAL doctor's plan. You are going to lose
more weight. It WILL happen.... maybe SLOW like me.... but it will happen!
I went back to liquids for one day and had an AWFUL hungry headache. Plus
you really NEED your protein so if you just MUST be like me and do that
liquids thing again, drink protein drinks while you are at it. Good luck
to you and don't worry. You are going to lose more weight!

You don't say how much you have gained but in women in can be during your
monthly cycle you could retain water, and often my weight fluctuates within
a few lbs during different times of the day. If you are worried I would
consult your surgeon.

Hi there! I would say NO! Follow yur doctor's plan for you! It seems
discouraging to get 'stuck' at a few weeks out, but really, it's normal.
Please don't ignore your doctor's plan for re-introducing you to a normal
diet (or eating habits) It can be dangerous for you to go all liquids only
because you feel afraid about the amount you are losing. I'm sure if you
talked to your doctor he'd say the same thing. You weight 'gain' could
simply be fluid retention. There is really no way that you could actually
gain a lasting amount of weight at this stage in the process. You need to
make sure that the first 6 weeks post op is about healing and getting your
system better and back on track. So my advice would be, 1. Get off the
scale and only weigh 1x a month, since you weight will fluctuate greatly.
This way- there's no stress or disappointment. 2. Follow your doctor's
eating plans as closely as you possibly can. 3. Watch out for sodium, as
it can cause excessive fluid retention.
I understand what you're going through and I know it's stressful. But,
trust in yourself, your surgeon ond the surgery. Be patient and comply
with Dr's orderd and you will see wonderful results very soon! Hang in
there!
