Question:
Has anyone not been able to have a tummy tuck due to low iron levels?
I am scheduled for a tummy tuck in two weeks, I went for blood work and my iron levels were low (they have been for a while)I'm worried that they will cancel my surgery. Has anyone had to have a blood transfusion to be able to have a TT? My hemoticrit is 10.3. — Jennifer C. (posted on September 25, 2003)

I HAVE ALWAYS HAD LOW IRON, AND MY TUMMY TUCK WAS NOT CANCELED AND WENT OFF
WITHOUT A HITCH, NO PROBLEMS, NO TRANSFUSIONS OR ANYTHING. HERE'S A HINT
THOUGH GET SOME NEOSPORIN(SP) AND PUT IT ON ONCE YOU GET HOME FROM THE
HOSPITAL WHENEVER YOU CHANGE YOUR BANDAGES AND IT HELPS REDUCE THE RISK OF
INFECTION, EVERYONE I KNOW WHO HAS DONE THIS HAS HAD NO PROBLEMS WITH THEIR
INCISIONS. GOOD LUCK AND TAKE IT EASY. TONJIA -132PDS

I was scheduled for a TT and hernia repair. My iron was way low; instead
of 'postponing' they just gave me a transfusion. Everything went fine.
