Question:
Can we eat too many?
It's summer and my favorite fresh veggie is tomatoes. My question is can we eat too many? I like to have them with every meal this time of year. And sometimes will have a whole tomatoe for a meal. Help me out. I don't want to ruin my diet after 8 months. — Nicole S. (posted on June 24, 2003)

Per my nutritionist, the membranes can't digest, so you'd have to peel them
I think? This was about grapes, orange sections, so not sure about the
thin tomatoe skins.

I love tomatoes too. especially on my salad. I would say I eat about 2
tomatoes a day. I chew them well and they turn to liquid. But the peels
well the come out pretty much intact. I do not peel them. And as long as
you chew them well youll be fine! Or ask your surgeon this is just how I
do!

one of my favorite meals is a tomato and cucumber salad. I peel the cukes
but not the tomato. I seed them both, chop them into small pieces and dress
them lightly with mayo - add some shredded cheese and sometimes some
shredded meat (but usually not), salt/pepper and enjoy. I'd guess you may
not have chewed them well enough, but could be some other reason as well.
Sigh...

I eat tomatoes and cucumbers and celery etc, unpeeled and strings and all.
I chew well, this is called getting enough fiber to poop on a regular
basis, no one digests all that fiber, that is one reason we need to eat
fresh fruits and veggies. It also reduces colon cancer risk to eat adequate
fiber amounts
