Question:
Has anyone post-op used the antiobotic Levaquin?
I've been diagnosed with a urinary tract infection and I've never heard of this antibiotic. The doctor said it SHOULD be well tolerated , lol, but he didn't sound too positive. Thanks!! — Jessica C. (posted on June 6, 2003)

yes, I have. I was only 1 week post-op when it was given to me, and it was
OK. The only problem is I had to crush it and take it and it tasted
horrible!!! YUCK!

YES. I WAS TAKING IT FOR AN EAR INFECTION. IT GAVE ME THE POTTY BLUES FOR
THREE DAYS. I PASSED OUT AT WORK AND WAS ADMITTED TO THE ER. I WAS GIVE 2
UNITS OF FLUIDS BECAUSE I WAS DEHYDRATED. THAT IS A NASTY PILL AND I'LL
NEVER TAKE IT AGAIN.

Just finished with Levaquin. It is the best treatment for a UTI. As with
all antibiotics, there maybe some diarhea. I just took some immodium and
now I feel great. Don't mess with a UTI.

my husband was prescribed levaquin & the next day he had a full body
rash that itched. when my wls incision became infected, my pcp swore
levaquin was the best treatment. after 2 doses i itched so badly, i didnt
know where to scratch first. i know of others who have had no problem
whatsoever with it. im sure its a great med, just need to be aware of any
reactions to it that you might experience.

I got a UTI the week after I got out of the hospital, probably be cause I
had to be catherized twice...but anyway I was given Levaquin also. I took
it for 10 days and had no problems. Usually when I take a strong antibotic
I get a yeast infection and I didn't with this drug. No problem at all.

I took levaquin twice post-op. Once was immediately following surgery for
10 days, then again for 7 days when they removed my drain tube as a
precaution to prevent infection. I did great both times. Good luck!!

I am on Levaquin now for a kidney infection. IT seems to be working for
me.I have taken the 250mg and am now taking 500mg. It does show up in my
bloodwork,so the Dr. knows it is working.I do have to break it in half to
be able to swallow it. Lindy in AL 3/20/03 -55lbs.

Just so you know, if you're a newby and don't want to mess with crushing a
horrible tasting pill you can have it by injection. Works awesome. You'll
have to go in daily to your doc for the injection but might be well worth
it. And I also noticed the lack of post treatment yeast infections - a nice
bonus.
