Question:
Are there any frozen dinners out there????????
Are there any frozen dinners out there that are lo-cal, high in protien, lo-carbs, lo-sodium? I am not post-op yet...but I want to be prepared for when i have my surgery (Feb-March 2003 I hope!!)....I am a full time college student and mother and I don't have a lot of time to sit down and sort through my cupboard of what I can and cannot eat... — Renee B. I am still post op and I am not an expert, but from my previous diets where
I was trying to "get my protein" I found that Healthy Choice
meals have more protein than other meals.

Early on you cant eat much, we just ate mostly the protein and gave the
rest to our dogs. Easier and cheaper than special meals when you want
something quick.

Funny you should mention this. While I was at work last week, my friend
had a Lean Cuisine ready to heat up for lunch. The fat content wasn't too
high and the protein was around 30 g. I was looking at something with
chicken and fettucini, so the carbs were high, but since most of us can't
eat the whole thing early out, I suppose it may be ok if you eat the
chicken and vegetables first.

I use lean cuisine and Healthy choice, just don't eat all the carbs it
comes with. They are really convenient when I am alone or need a meal in a
hurry...my nutritionist says they are fine, but don't rely on them all the
time. Right now she also said I need some sodium, so its not a problem for
me. I just pick out the protein and leave over most of the rest of the
meal.

Healthy Choice, Lean Cuisine and Smart Choice all have fairly low calorie,
low fat meals, but all have carbs. Most of us do not eat the carb portion
or just have a bite or two. Early post-op, you struggle just to eat 1/2
the meat portion and a bite or two of veggie! I miss those days...

I found low fat stuffed chicken breasts called "Marco Polo" at
Costco. They are 6 oz and stuffed with cheese, ham & broccoli. 190
cal, 5 gm fat, 820 mg sodium, 8 gm carbs & 31 gm protein. They are very
tasty & quick to heat up.

I have been having frozen meals by Cedar Lane, I don't know if they are
nationally available, they are produced n California, I am in Chicago area.
They are all organic. vegetarian, good protein sources, and taste
delicious. Each one is 2 servings by the nutritional labeling, aprox 10
oz.total in the package. I can eat half. They do have carbs, but my plan
is a balanced diet not a no carb plan. I love the enchilada pie, and
vegetable lasagna. Trying szechuan chicken( vegetarian meat substute)
tomorrow and the eggplant parmesan looks excellent. In the chicago area
they are available at Dominicks, other areas might want to try safeway,
they own Dominicks. they are in the "health food section" rather
than with the other big name brand frozen dinners.
