Hi. I know everyone is different; however, I could not have kept down a protein bar this early in the game. I would check with your doctor. I spent a lot of money trying bars, and many of them ended up in the trash. I would recommend doctors carbrite S'mores and Brownie. Also, cookies and creme by EAS is pretty good along with a couple of carb solution flavors. All of them are low in carbs and pack at least 20 grams of protien. Most of them run 185-210 in calories. I hope you find this information useful. Best of luck to you in your journey!

Pam, yes protein bars are ok to eat, BUT, I would wait until you are at least 6 wks out...I am guessing your dtr/nutrionist has you on a supervised diet. I would follow what he or she perscribed and then, once you are moved to solid foods, go for it!

Hi, I was told not to eat them. For starters most have too much sugar. Secondly, My Dr. said I am suppose to learn to eat right. You have to get to know your new stomach. That takes time! Good Luck

Pam, I use protein bars as a supplement for my protein (mostly because I can't stand the powders). GNC sells a bar called Nitro-Tech, which is high in protein (30-35 grams), and low in carbs (5-6 grams)..they taste pretty good too. Good luck.

Just goes to show how everyone's doctor is different too. My surgeon told me to add a protein bar when I was 3 weeks post-op. Although I have tried many I still prefer the one he recommended, Metrx Protein Plus. I like the Chocolate Fudge, it practically melts in your mouth. At first I could only eat a third at a time, then a half, etc. Each bar contains 32 grams of protein, 4 grams fat, 3 grams net impact carbs, and only 1 gram of sugar. At 17 months post-op I still eat a protein bar for breakfast each day.

We all do have different docs, don't we?! Mine said clear liqiuds for two weeks, then most liquids for 2 weeks, then pureed food x 2 weeks, then soft food x two weeks...then food as tolerated...

My surgery was 12/19/02 and my doctor will not even let me eat anything with milk yet. I can have blended soup, protein supplement, cream of wheat (no milk) and sugar free jello. I have found a GREAT supplement... tastes good, has 15 grams of protein, and is easy to take. It is Pro-co-lite. I am afraid of solids yet. Dr. does not like to add solids until 6 weeks after surgery. That way, the pouch and everything else will really heal. Good luck.
