Question:
What's the deal with the protein???
Quick question...what's the deal with all the protein you're supposed to eat post-op? — jenn_jenn (posted on May 1, 2002)

I'm sure Michelle will get on this one...she's the queen of protein! What
I think I know is that (1) the protein helps us heal and (2) our bodies
REQUIRE protein to function properly. Since we can eat so little, it takes
us really focusing on the protein to make sure we get it in...example: if I
eat potatoes, salad, and green beans and THEN try to eat chicken..it won't
happen! I have to START with the chicken..and then eat a little bit of the
other foods that I can get in. Good luck to you. Open RNY 7/17/091, -94,

Since you asked in simple terms, I'll answer simply and then you can
elaborate your question. Protein is the basis of your BODY. Blood =
protein. It's in every cell of your body. Without enough, SOMETHING
suffers. You do not choose what you lose (organ, muscle, other tissue),
but your body does. If you short it, you pay for it. Sooner or later. It's
a very bad scene. Get ENOUGH protein and you feel good, retain the
important parts, lose the FAT, and whey proteins help control cravings. In
a nutshell.
