Question:
Can we have raisins?
I am 4 1/2 mos post-op. I bought some trail mix for my kids, it has raisins, cashews, peanuts, MnM's, almonds, dried fruit. I decided to try some raisins and nuts together(just a few) for a snack, and I tolerated it ok. but I wasn't sure if this was an appropriate snack for a post-op. It seems that raisins have a ton of natural sugar, but can we have that as long as it's natural?? Just need some feedback!! Thanks everyone!! — Lauren P. (posted on January 21, 2001)

I can eat raisins with no problem at all. It's a natural sugar so you
should tolerate them just fine. Jay Open RNY 7/28/00

I was told not to eat raisins until I was 6 months post-op. But everyone is
different.

5 or 6 raisins taken every now and then is probably not going to fatten you
back up, though they might cause the D-word. But 5 or 6 per half hour is a
lot of sugar, natural or not, so can interfere with your wt loss. I've
known people to dump on raisins, on an orange or a banana. If it's dumping
you're worried about, natural isn't safer, necessarily. Look at the sugar
g on the package and stay below 6g per serving.

I'm 5 weeks post op and I add raisins to oatmeal without any problems. I
add about 10 raisins.

Raisins have a natural sugar in them, so cautiously use them to see how
well you tolerate them. I love them, but they don't love me. Worst gas I
ever got in the world was from raisins.

Raisins make me dump. Just a few and its sick city. I can eat fresh fruit
without a problem. ~Sidney~ Open RNY 10-23-02 down 130+ and under goal
