Question:
do any of you people eat peanuts to get protein?
Is this ok or will this be a problem? — [Anonymous] (posted on July 28, 2000)

I don't think that nuts are a complete protein. Also, they aren't very
high in protein for the volume you'd have to eat. They're also prety high
in fat. Now, we can tolerate more fat than sugar and still lose weight,
but you'd have to eat SO MANY, and with a grain, that the calorie vs
protein trade off is probably not worth the effort. And finally, like all
"food" protein, there will be an absorption issue. All in all,
you're better off with a good protein supplement that mixes with water and
skip all the fats, sugars and calories. Peanuts make a good snack, but
they're not so good as a subsistence item.

I eat them for "on the run" foods. When I am out shopping or
whatever, it comes in handy. It has about 8gm of protein per ounce My doc
said that one guy gained weight by eating peanuts all the time.

I have not had surgery but I do know peanuts are very high in fat. Has
anyone felt a lump like feeling in their stomach after eating these? My
doc says this is because they are hard to digest.

Sometimes I have a couple of handfuls of peanuts if I'm starving and don't
have time to eat anything. I just make sure I chew them up very well.
They're better than chips or something but not really a significant source
of protein.
