Question:
has any 1 done the surgery a 2nd time for any reason
I had gastric by pass about 7 years ago. I lost 160 pounds but in time have managed to gain about 50-60 back. Maybe some old habits came back, but i definitly can eat more than i should be able too. Does any one know if I can have 1- the staples redone or tightened or whatever the medical term is to have the surgery again. 2-I had by pass with the "knife", if it can be done again to help me lose again, can the surgery be done either by laproscopic or lap band. — ken R. Yes, having the surgery re-done is called a revision. To get an idea
whether that might be a possibility in your case, check out this Yahoo
group: http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/WLSrevisionsupport
There's also plenty of discussion of revisions (and of weight regain in
general) in the "Grad" WLS Yahoo group,
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Graduate-OSSG .

Yes, I had a revision about 6 months ago. I went to a different surgeon and
it was discovered that not very much of my stomach was reduced with my
first surgery. Reducing the stomach is the key to the weightloss with the
DS and the distal RNY configuration of the intestines is to maintain the
weightloss long term. I am very happy with results of my revision and am
down -102 lbs total now. I believe I have lost more weight with my revision
then I did with my original surgery. I also like the feeling of being full
on a small amount of food and have a reduced appetite. I believe it has to
do with reduction in the hunger hormone Gherlin. You may want to look into
being revised to a DS surgery since a restrictive only surgery has failed
you once. To read about the DS please join us at the DS forum here on OH or

I was revised in 2000. My original RNY was 10/94 and my staple line
distrupted. I would highly recommend the Grad list as many, many of us
have been or are processing to be revised.

I thougt it was just me! You know that failure thing. I had a RNY
surgically (not lap) in 2001 and lost about 80 lbs the first 6 months,
after that it has been a struggle to keep it off. My goal was to lose 150
lbs but I have not come even close. Now I can generally eat large
quanities of food. I don't get that full feeling anymore. About the only
effect that reminds me that I had the surgery is the low tolerance for
sugar or alcohol. I would love to get a revision...I just didn't know it
was an option.

I dont know where you are located, but i would suggest that you call Dr.
Coirin and Dr. Coates in Modesto, CA. I believe their clinic is called
Central California Bariatrics or Bariatric Surgery (something like that).
Anyway they are EXCELLENT! I had a RNY Laprascopic about 2 1/2 yrs ago.
NEVER had any problems.

you can have still have the lap band--much safer than a revision--have
heard those can be risky.
good luck!
