Question:
I am one week post op. Can I drink DeCaf coffie
One week post op. Can I have a cup of DeCaf Coffee with carnation coffeemate and a couple of sweet and lows. I guess this is what I miss the most. Any intake will be appreciated — Maureen C. (posted on April 23, 2003)

Yes, frink and enjoy! Decaf cofee and tea were and still are my favorite
ways to get fluids in.

I drink regular caffeinated coffee since the day after surgery. I used to
have a several cup a day habit but now I'm down to about a half cup to a
cup in the morning. It's the only liquid that goes down well and I can't
seem to tolerate my morning shake unless I've had my coffee first.

I missed my coffee too an now at 3+ months post I can drink it comfortably
(mostly decaf though). I would just say go slow and see how it feels.
Coffee of any sort hurt my pouch for the first 2 months. I was a die hard
coffee drinker pre op and now 1 cup a day lasts all day and is very
satisfying. Also if you are drinking caffeine make sure to get a little
extra water in during the day. Caffeine is a diuretic and depletes you of
water a bit. I have even had a couple of lattes but make sure they are skim
because otherwise they have an unbelievable number of calories.
