Question:
Has anyone tried the jars of only baby food meat

Gerber Baby Foods has 2 1/1 ounce jars of just meat, beef, turkey and chicken. Has anyone tried those for their protein requirements after surgery. I was thinking this would be easier for when I first come home from the hospital.    — Maureen M. (posted on March 3, 2003)

Yes I bought some just to try and see what it would be like. It was awful so then decided to by a mini food grinder instead of using a blender and will use that instead. At least I could put some flavorings and such with what I make. The baby food is very bland. Hope this helps. Barbara

I bought those for my son when he was an infant & almost gagged feeding them to him. I never even thought about tasting them then, because I couldn't get past the smell. You may want to just buy a food grinder instead. Good Luck!

The taste is revolting. Don't waste your money, unless you have someone you can give them to if you don't like them. The only "baby" item I liked was the squash. Even the fruits were horrid...so bland and the texture (there is no texture) is just weird. Hugs, Joy

I tried them after surgery. I felt guilty that I ever fed that stuff to my children after tasting it. I pretty much hated all meat for several months after surgery. I got in all of my protein from Real Meals shakes and dairy products. Like ricotta cheese has a ton of protein. I would make stuffed shells for the family and eat the ricotta with sauce.

This has worked for some, although I never tried it. I ate alot of cheese and eggs and yogurt. Just be careful of the sugar content. Baby food sometimes can have alot of sugar, esp. the fruit ofcourse, so if you feel sick afterwards, may be too much sugar for your new pouch. Goodluck to you!

I ate the baby food meat. I liked it. I mixed the chicken with a little bit of chicken broth and then added salt and pepper. For me, it was much preferable to protein drinks.

The baby food meat is pretty gross by itself, but put in the blender with canned soup, it's not bad. I lived on this concoction for 6 weeks, lunch and dinner, after jaw surgery some years ago.

Repulsive, disgusting, yuck! My cat wouldn't even eat it - I threw it away! (How can we feed that to babies?!)

I'd rather eat Spam, potted meat, vienna sausages or canned sardines (and I don't even like any of them!). I tried all the plain baby food meats -- tried them hot, tried them cold, tried them luke-warm....tried them with spices, tried them with margarine, tried them with pepper, and then with salt.....and then said "enough of this", and called it all to a halt. OK, OK....sounds corny.....kinda like a Dr. Seuss book, doesn't it?.....but it was truly yucky....much worse that even the worst protein drink I'd tried. They are cheap though....might as well get a couple and experiment, because everyone's taste buds are different, and they may even change after surgery. Good luck!
